Got rid of sky and been to look at a freesat box do I just unplug sky box and connect freesat or is there more than that, it also says that I need to connect to broadband will it work without?
Should be just plug in and go.
Says I need to plug in 2 cables but I only have 1
Depends what sort of Sky installation you had before, and what sort of Freesat box you’ve now got. Plain, ordinary Sky Digital boxes only had one connection to the dish (or rather, to the LNB in front of the dish). Sky+ boxes (the ones with built-in hard disk recorders) had two feeds from the LNB - so you can tune to two different channels at the same time.
Freesat boxes follow the same principles - if you have one with a built-in recorder it will need two feeds from the LNB.
In both cases, the thing should work with only one feed from the LNB, but you won’t be able to watch one channel while recording another.
The Broadband connection should only be needed to access other, on-demand and interactive services. Just like a Sky+ HD box does. As far as I know, basic receiving of ordinary, free satellite channels will work fine without Broadband.
Thanks for all that, I only have the plain sky box with 1 connection but when I connect to freesat box it says no signal received any ideas on that
You might try connecting the single cable into the other input on the box. But if still no go, you’ll need to look further. Many ordinary Sky installations actually have a dual LNB (even though only one side is connected), so it may be that all you need is another cable running up to the dish/LNB. Most Sky+ installations have a quad LNB, even though only two are connected. Allows a certain amount of redundancy in the event of a failure.
But a new LNB is cheap enough (or your friendly local aerial/dish installer will cheerfully replace the whole thing). You can fit them yourself, but you really need the right meters etc to tweak it for best reception.
But before you do anything, just leave the box switched on for a while just in case it needs to “find” the signal.
Aerial lead straight into your freesat box…That’s it!
If you need to change the LNB you can get a new one on eBay
As for the " no signal " have you tried both connectors on your freesat box ?
Before getting radical, undo the dish input into your freesat box, look the little wire in the cable plug and mak sure it’s not bent over.
