After spending £18000 of your money, the Council have decided to shut King Street parking, the £18,000 was for a consultant.Neighbours have been complaining of female/male drivers changing in their sleeper cabs. There is no toilets for drivers parking up,and are forced to use the area. The land is adjacent to a residential area, and fridge engines, and early starts have upset the locals, one compaigner may sue the council,if his wife has a sleep related accident, due to fatique, because of the noise disturbance.
One man is upset that it was a free park for HGVs as the rest of the UK councils charge for HGV parking. What is the point of writing to a paper to say he was angry drivers did not have to pay for parking, many of us have to have cash up front to run the bosses truck business,to pay his tolls, parking etc, etc, and get it paid back later. Another site nearby was turned down by locals,as they did not want the same problems that King Street had.Drivers now have to use Chippenham and Warminster HGV parking sites. Europe does not have this agro, acres or hectares of free spaces, but slowly, sites are now charging,or you must buy a meal to park up.Good value food, friendly service.Take a look at the IDS site in Calais,24 hour open, shut one day in the year,it has a laundry service, vignete purchase service, truckers shop. UK is so anti-truck,even at delivery, loading points they look at you like something at the bottom of their shoe, and comments like "why are you bringing that truck down here."Why dont they knock down Dover and start again, the place is a 1970
s time warp, and cant cope with modern traffic volumes. At the moment Newhaven and Dieppe is truck friendly,(free.).And Poole, and Cherbourg.
