Severn bridges: Talks adjourned on toll booth staff row - BBC News

Funny the French usaully strike and it hurts the Brits, would be nice to see a British strike hurt the French bridge owners.

The Scots did away with tolls several years ago, time for the rest of the U.K. to catch up I think.

This may seem daft but why do we have Tolls anyway, do we not pay enough to drive on our pot holed roads as it is with the Road Fund Licence, Fuel Duty and VAT on fuel. It just seems crazy that you can be charged again for what is a public highway.

i know its slightly off topic but we had a guy in the pub a few months ago… cause he was wingeing about paying for the tolls and we convinced him that if he takes his passport with him the next time he comes back into wales and it shows he was born in wales then he can come across for free… think he still belives this lol

The bridge is not public. It is owned by a private French firm

Do you also ask why some atm’s charge?

Same for both the toll road and the atm’s that charge, if they didn’t, they wouldn’t exist, they are placed by private firms as a business to make money.

hand’s up, who’s going to drive through the toll booth’s on the limiter when the strike is on, just for ■■■■’s and giggle’s and all that…

I plan to fill my boots very much when this happens

I’ll do it but it might have to be the wide load booth.

What if the French ■■■■■■■■ decided to close the crossing for the duration of the action?

+1^^^^
With the amount of corporate greed around nowadays can this really go ahead…?

They’re not aloud to close it

Unite said it was “negotiating in earnest to get a fair settlement” with SRC. Talks will resume on Friday.

What’s Earnest got to do with it? Does anyone know him?

Indeed. Poor spelling and grammar is expected, when most on this board drive for a living and don’t need to write much.

Although most web browsers even have spell checkers these days

Make sure that if this happens, you take your TAG off the screen as I’ll bet they dont stop them charging you as you pass through (All lanes have TAG receivers on them).

They’ll try to get as much money as they can despite the strike. :imp:

Isn’t earnest the correct spelling in the above context? Isn’t the speed limit 40MPH or less on the “toll plaza”? I certainly know of someone whose only points were due to speeding along there - not me.
