Free medical for night shift drivers

As a night shift driver, I have heard that we are supposed to have a free medical check up because we work unsociable hours. Is this correct as this information was obtained third hand from a fellow worker who was having disciplinary action taken against him. He was told this by a union rep. Can anybody verify this? :smiling_imp:

Been on nights for over 6 years and the only medical I’ve had is the one at 45! Company has never offered me anything like that

Our place have just given all drivers who work between 00.00-0400hrs a Health Check with the company nurse,it involved an eye test, blood pressure and a chat about your well being (how are you sleeping, etc) and for driver’s on Livehaul we had to do a lung test due to all the dust and feathers…when we asked them why we were having these Health check’s we were told it was a legal requirment for anybody who regulary works Midnight and 4am

I’ve been offered one of these twice before, and turned it down both times.

If you ā€œpassā€ you won’t be getting anything extra.

If you ā€œFailā€ you’ll be taken off nights.

Heads you don’t win, tails you lose. :imp:

It’s like all those offers I get to have ā€œA water meter installed absolutely FREEā€!

If the OP means a ā€œMedicalā€ in sense of the requirement when you renew you license when you are 45+, than no.
But if you mean a check up by a medical, than yes, you have that right, but you need to ask the company about it.

I was talking to a neighbours son who drives a powder tanker and he mentioned that he cannot start work before 4am unless the company pay for a medical for him, they wont so he starts at 5 am instead! He is only in his early thirties so well off the 45 age for the general medical.
