Free food in Hull for key workers

Free food. Yes, thats right, free food.

Hull For Heroes.

If you happen to be delivering in Hull, then a charity called Hull For Heroes is giving key workers, a chance to obtain free hot food.

The guys who run it, took part in the BBC programme DIY SOS, where they built a whole street in Manchester for ex servicemen, and they set up the charity to do something similar in Hull.

It’s on Malmo Road HU7 0YF. The road is a dead end, and there is a turning circle at the bottom, and you can spin it round if you have an artic, then back it up and you will see it through the first gates in the yard of HOTA. There is a flag on the road saying, HULL FOR HEROES.

They have a donation bucket if you want to give a little bit, but it’s not compulsory. Well worth it in my opinion.

Good on them I reckon.
On a side note. I saw that DIY SOS show where they renovated that derelict street for ex servicemen, thought it was a bloody good idea.
Can’t see why local authorities can’t do that, rather than new builds popping up here there and everywhere, .either first time buy type or reasonable (as opposed to extortionate private) rents.)

Just goes to show that there really are decent and caring people in the world and that they are not all as bad as people make out. Might be a point to note that some of these volunteers are not of British nationality either but are wanting to help others out in a crisis all pulling together.

They gave me a free feed couple of weeks ago after I’d delivered next door to Fare share.

Ended up with a sausage sarnie, orange juice, couple of sausage rolls, and then even some buns and cakes to take home for the kids!

Well worth a call and voluntary donation!

Thats fantastic and very kind but…

I’d much rather give a donation anyway, and then pass that scran onto someone who really does need it. Most if us don’t, shops are open still. There are however some people who don’t have the means to get enough food or any food and I’d rather my portion at least goes towards them.

+1^^^^. Respect for anyone going out of their way to help others but I sometimes wonder if I’m alone in feeling slightly embarrassed when they call truck drivers heroes? I’m of the opinion that we are just ordinary people doing an ordinary if mundane job. It makes me cringe when I see social media posts saying things like we should receive massive bonuses for doing what is merely our jobs.

Don’t give me a bonus Mr Johnson, if you want to make a grand gesture then absolve all carers and frontline medical staff from income tax for a year.

Exactly this, I consider myself fortunate to still be working and relatively unaffected by this. Some people are suffering huge financial problems and I would think that when furlough ends many more will find themselves dumped on the scrap heap.

I’m with you guys on this.

I posted the above as a friend of mine was there the other day, not me, and asked me to mention it.

I am also lucky insofar as there are only 2 of us working on our job, and despite the customer taking their branch deliveries down to fortnighly, we are still on full pay.

This coming week, I will do 2 days with a total of around 12 hours, for my full weekly pay. My oppo, will do 3, and the following week, we will swap. Both of us have our own set runs every week, and know what we do from week to week, but fair play to our boss for still paying us when he could have easily cut our wages.

Ken.
