I tried AVG after using Nortons for a few years until i read a report on how bad nortons really is.
After installing AVG i run a system scan and it found 26 that Nortons didnt see.
Make your own mind up
A combination of AVG, AdAware SE & Zone Alarm (which are all free downloads) have been totally reliable for me for the last few years.
When you can get virus protection, spybot removal & a firewall (which are all well rated) for free, why would you pay for them??
Just use Linux or Unix problem solved
Or you could convert to Mac which currently has approx 3-4 “serious” viruses compared to Windoze 60,000 or so.
Apparently Linux only has about 50 viruses. This means you are fairly safe from getting a virus if you use a Linux distro but you should still run some sort of antivirus program. This is to catch any ‘nasties’ being circulated. You may not get infected using Linux but you can still pass it on via email.
There are at most 40 viruses for linux and about 5 for commercial Unix but they are mostly confined to the laboratory so should be safe for a while

Till they escape.
Then it will be back to linuxPPC or if i will the lottery an Irix box, that should be safe for a while

if i win the lottery an Irix box,
If you do a bit of searching you could get a brand new box for about £5000, mind thats only bottom of the range though.
Get a few Saturdays in and you’re laughing
What do you use at the moment?
The main PC is a dual boot Win XP corporate and Slackware, my laptop is still XP as thats what came with it last week and i haven’t had the time to do anything with it and if i was telling the truth i simply can’t be arsed.
However, come the first blue screen of death and XP will be a distant memory. Not too sure what to replace it with as i need something that is compatable with the wirless network card and/or a vodaphone mobile connect card am thinking SuSE or Mandrake for this but not looked too hard yet.
Were i being smart i should of brought a Mac but at present you can’t get half-life 2 for Mac and i could get no answer to the compatability of the connect card. Also i really didn’t want to go to the Apple store in London as i would have spent far too much money on things i don’t need but look good i.e. a nice shiney dual G5 with the 23" cinema screen.
Unfortunatley Jnr is taught Windoze at school so atleast he can do his homework.
