I didn’t know the man, but R.I.P. Fred Haydon. My condolences to his family.

Yes sadly Mabel passed away early last week and Fred went a couple of days later after a short illness. He had just turned 87 earlier this month. He was the third oldest son of four in the J Haydon & Sons firm.
He remained very interested in lorries right to the end and when I used to visit, we’d look through his many scrapbooks and talk about wagons, drivers etc and always had a laugh!
He is pictured below with wife Mabel in the cab on the last day of livestock haulage, April 1989.
Hiya…very sad news. i saw Fred at a friends party about 6 months ago Fred was using a wheel chair but was
chatting away with everyone… maybe a blessing he pass on so soon after Mabel… i,ve seen Haydons

A lovely service today and great celebration of Fred and his wife Mabel’s life (if a little sad)
Some great memories down the years and here’s a shot of Fred in happier times (showing off his 1939 Albion to my missus in 2002)
This lorry took Fred and Mabel on their final journey today as the sun shone - nice tribute
PS - nice see ya Robbo
