France on sunday

is it possible/ permited to drive on a sunday through france with a tractor unit only?

Anything is possible but it’s not legal. The Sunday restriction is for vehicles with a maximum permitted weight of over 7.5t and a solo tractor unit will have a maximum permitted weight of 18t plus, depending on number of axles.

I suppose you could stick a bag of onions in the passenger footwell and tell 'em you’re exempt 'cos you’re carrying perishables

i would say yes, provided you take the fifth wheel off[i know it,s too much ■■■■ and you wont] that would make you exempt. under french law you dont have to be taxed, and if no fifth wheel you can not tow a trailor. i will happy to be corected.

Trailer has nothing to do with it, The ban applies to vehicles with maximum permissible weight of over 7.5 tonnes and a 4x2 solo tractor unit has a MPW of about 18 tonnes and a 6x2 even more than that.

Many moons ago, I was stopped in France while running tractor unit only on a Sunday, and I said “But I’m going to get something to eat” and they said “Oh, ok then” and let me carry on.
