CANNOT CONFIRM, BUT SOUNDS ABOUT PAR FOR THE COURSE M8

i have heard that rumour

I can confirm that neither France or Germany have an opt-out for the WTD.

Indeed it was a french minister who 1st suggested it.

the reason i ask is because i heard it on the radio this morning and a driver that heard the whole interview with someone from one of the trade unions said that was the case also a few drivers phoned into confirm this .mike mendossa on talk sport was the program

The german firms do not need a opt out clause as 95% of the firms do
not follow the required ,regulations or the law and gentlemen I do know
what I am talking about because I live and work in Germany and have done
as a driver for the last 19years,So sorry they have no need of any short cuts.

hey pete…i opted out years ago…and i`m opting out now…do the job…get paid…go home…whats wrong with that… 4.5 hrs…1 hr break…4.5 hrs…get the beers in…that will do for me…

So is there clear and widespread flouting of the EU rules and the authorities turn a blind eye?

Aren’t the French chaps after a 35 Hour week now? That’s just beeing lazy… :unamused:

isnt that why they went on strike about ten years ago? then went on strike again a few years later cos they didnt like it?

The French were on strike last week to get the working week increased along with some other social issues.

You should all know that the only country that does as Brussels tell them is the UK :open_mouth:

most of em’ll have to up their hours then i reckon, although with their lunch breaks added that is about 60 hours a week ain’t it?

This week the German parliament refused to ratify the WTD describing it as unnecessary :open_mouth: .

I think that all over Europe they are starting to realise that the WTD in its present form will cause chaos as far as international JIT is concerned and that some behind the doors pressure is being applied by the big multi nationals like Mercedes etc.

Think you’re a bit out of date Patrick, that was brought in by the socialist government about 4 years ago, was easily circumvented by manipulation of the rules (I continued to work up to 80 hours a week counting spreads) and has now been rolled back by the current government. If there is any unrest it is the mollycoddled unionised state workers (rail, elec, post etc) who like the lower hours because theirs were the only industries which could afford to implement them (monopolies you see). Everybody else (free market competition you see) couldn’t, and heaves a sigh of relief.

Salut, David.
