Fowler Welch skelly

i dont know why i noticed this but
why was there a Fowler Welch skelly
under a Containerships box
and being towed a Containerships truck

never seen Fowlers pulling boxes in their own right

My brother works for what was,Bawdsey Haulage in Felixstowe, which was bought by Fowler-Welch a year or more ago.

Fowler-Welch have a huge contract with one of the major supermarkets to transport and de-van containers,so you’ll see more and more of Fowler-Welch pulling skelly’s.
Or other hauliers pulling Fowler-Welch skelly’s.

I do boxes for a Maritime subby, and we also do a lot of Fowler work, they have their own container trucks, skelly’s and dedicated drivers.

I just cover when they’re on hols

im new to containers. Why do I see quite a few Argos trucks pulling containers in felixtowe?

Own account.

So much of their stuff comes from abroad. they have their own trucks so just cheaper to get their own skellys and fetch their own stuff than pay someone like Maritime (other container hauliers are available) to do it

Used to do a lot of argos and woolwoths containers, when i was with DHL, its no wonder they have started to pull the containers themself, tip times can be unbeliveable. :open_mouth:

Argos and containers its because they buy foreign made goods
Wincanton used to do the work out of Kettering
Recently they took it in house and its done from Magna Park
though boxes go to Barton for tipping
they have got a few 44 tonne units on the job

dont know anymore as aint up there so often these days
Homebase seem to be doing there own boxes as well

Im led to believe that its because Wincanton runs alot of the Argos contract so they tie it in with their container operation and utilise the trucks accordingly, as most of it is drop and swap work.

Fowler Welch pull containers out of Teesport, not sure but I hear its a contract with a company to bring the inward goods in, rather than with the shipping lines. I would guess, knowing that Containerships hire in Skellies that Fowler welch do the same from the same firm (I think but willing to be corrected that the major one is Tees Valley Trailers) and Containerships had just got one on hire that had come off long term hire from Fowlers and therefore still liveried. it is is no way uncommon to see a containerships liveried Skelly round here being pulled by a firm that is not a subbie for conships and a box that is not in the evergrowing Conships group

hang around Teesport enough and you will see a lot of companies not normaly associated with boxes pulling skellies and boxes out including Prestons of Potto, David Fox etc… most of these are working direct for the company importing the goods, providing the warehousing and tip out/breakdown and reship for the client and not working for the shipping lines
