Here’s a couple of pics. from late '80s of some of my motors. I think we took this as it was very rare to get the motors that were on the greenhouse job back together! This was a time when drivers still took wagons home, so with that and the nights away with that job this sight was a one off.1

Got to admit there are some cracking stories and photos being posted on here.
Here’s a few of the limited number of photos I’ve got (don’t start me on why the others went missing
)
First is one of the luton TKs I drove, slow as a wet Wednesday till it came to stopping it, then it was too fast by half. After a while with that they trusted me with a new TL. Compared with the TKs this was luxury - cloth seats! Cab insulation!! Because I didn’t get into too much trouble and because I went for and passed my Class 1, the mob I was with made me the regular driver on a pair of DAF 2100s, this one was the later one. We did all sorts, local & distance removals, then they got into general haulage specialising in bulky freight, all over the UK.
Thee were plenty of other 16-tonners out there that were faster, (the 1617s we had for a start) but I got fond of these DAFs (and still am) - I put more than 500,000km on one and the one pictured was no spring chicken either, and bar servicing they were never off the road. They were a bit heavy for good payloads compared to D series, Dodge Commandos and even FL6s, but no matter what I put on them if I loaded it right they never looked overloaded, lopsided or tail-wagging-the-dog.
If I dig up any more I’ll post them up, but that’ll do me for now.
Some great photos and stories on here, I keep seeing wagons and firms I remember from the 80s and I’m glad people are taking the time to archive this stuff - it’s amazing what slips from your memory, then one day you see a photo of something and all sorts of memories come flooding back. Some of them are even good ones ![]()
