…Regarding the new rules on chart/record retention.

Any manual record and printouts for the
current day and those used by the driver in
the previous 28 calendar days (from 1st
January 2008),

Does this therefore mean that you have to have/carry a printout with you for the stated period, for every day worked?

I thought printouts were optional?

Ken.

Yay! Another thread about printouts and digital tachographs!

They are in normal use, yes. The Truckstop news article would seem to be badly worded.

Paul

With regards to printouts its only error ones that have to be kept.
i.e. running over time, nowhere to park, etc

As someone who has just got,and has yet to use his digi card, the question needed to be asked, especially as like everything in this industry, conflicting reports are everywhere.

Printouts are optional. You only printout when you need to make a manual entry on the chart. In all reality this will be an explanation for something as it is possible to make an ‘actual’ manual entry onto the card for things like extra work, poa, etc… whilst the card is still in the head. So really it will just be for excuses on the back of the printout to say why you drive for so long etc…
I’m probably being picky but i would disagree with Repton when he says it is badly worded. I would say its worded correctly. Its people seeing the word ‘printout’ and thinking they must just do it wothout understanding the facts that leads to confusion.

I agree, the wording seems to make perfect sense, much as I hate to say that about Truckstop News.

I have to be honest here, not sure if anyone else will agree but if there is one mag i need to have in my bag then its Truckstop News. Its always handy to have a look in the back to see where to get rid of my pallets (don’t forget guys you can sell them and get about £2 each for them) and for where the truckstops are as you will never know them all unless you do a regular route.
I like T and D too, mainly for the letters Scanny and Rob send in under aliases and the crayon drawings that Scaniaman Dave sends in under the guise of a twelve year old, i can also complete the crossword in it and show my boss the details on the latest trucks and their fuel consumption etc…!! Rivetting stuff !!!

I also found this in the truckstop news…
