Fort William and beyond

Off to Scotland tomorrow on hols. Anyone aware of any long term roadworks or sneaky scameras along the way? We are going on the A1, A66, then Glasgow, then A82 and beyond.

Lucky you - I love it up there! Have a great time and mind the midges!

There are several sections of roadworks on the A82, nothing to seriously hold you up though.

Heading Pitlochry on Wednesday for a few days hol, think I take a bit food for the man in the layby have a bit of criac with him cheer’s bob

More concerned with impending thunderstorms. Are midges a big problem in early June then?

Cheers for info on A82

Happy holidays Goldi
Jim

We had a tour of Scotland last June. Eaten alive on the shore of Loch Lomond. Not so bad on Skye.

Midges are shocking just now, invest in a head net and gallons of jungle juice,Avon skin so soft is meant to be good but doesn’t seem to work for me

If you eat garlic and spread some bog myrtle on your exposed skin that helps to keep them away.Enjoy your tour.

Beware of the speed camera NB at Great Ponton on the A1, that one is wokin for sure… as this notice of intended prosecution I have here tells me :frowning:

A82 between Crainlarich and The Green Welly (Tyndrum) is notorious for speed traps (mobile though, not fixed) so keep it sensible there, also once you get up the hill and over the top, there’s a long down hill and long straight. Again, keep it sensible there

Only roadworks on A82 I know about are at Pulpit Rock along Loch Lomond-side, but it’s nothing serious. Bookmark trafficscotland.co.uk - they are pretty on the ball, and are always firing out updates on Twitter too.

LOL @ the midge advice. It’s Scotland, there’s midges 24x7  I prefer tropical strength Jungle Formula, but if you forget it… just man up and prepare to be eaten

Bog myrtle? What’s that then. Will they sell it at Morrisons in Fort William? :sunglasses: Got some Avon in the boot along with the ‘kitchen sink’.
Notes taken on A82, thanks.

Cheers Jim, looking forward to it. Should be less clogged up than A61 Leeds Rd, hey!

There last week. Only road works are along Loch lomond which can be real ball ache if lots of traffic. Various small scale roadworks between Loch lomond and fort William, roadworks on the bridge on a82 north bound?? Friday to Monday.

in tesco you can get some stuff called smidge. £7 for a medium sized spray. It’s meant to last 8 hours. I’ve just got a bottle so looking forward to Monday morning and a trip to Clatteringshaws. One of the gtr drivers told me about it.

Skin so soft is bloody horrid when it’s all over your steering wheel.

Midges only like bad meat and smelly feet…
Its the haggis that u gotta watch… nearly breeding season again and they will hump anything wearing a head net or jungle juice…

two rounds of marmite toast for breakfast will stop the midges you will then secrete something they hate in your sweat so they wont come near

if that fails try taking up smoking a pipe the clouds of noxious fumes will keep them at bay

Marmite! I’d rather suffer the midges

Smidge works a treat!
