I received a phone call recently from a guy who said he’s X from Y, offered me some driving work. I said I’m already working somewhere and he asked where, I told him and he (pretending) said in a surprised voice “Oh, you’re Z, Z from agency ■■■” and I recognized the voice and put the name X in context with the voice and realized this guy used to work as a consultant for the agency I work for now as a driver…
Anyway, he said he could pay me “more than that” and said a bunch of negative stuff about the (his former) agency and that they were “stealing” my money and hours. I said that I’m not going to just leave my job overnight and I’m not interested (ok I was interested because the money offered/promised was good but then how do you trust someone who basically stole my contact information from the agency when he left and is now using it to benefit his current one…) and tried to put the pressure tactic “Be in there tomorrow or the job will be gone”. Even if I did go, I’m pretty sure my current agency would have a leg to stand on against me and/or my future employer if they decide to be pricks about it, right?
I would say with all the new GDPR regulation he and the company have broken the law… they had done by allowing your details to be used without your consent, and he has by stealing them…
If you are happy with the current company, ask them how come your details have been passed on, taken without your consent and what they intend to do about it…
Someone from Manpower left them and joined a new agency starting up and phoned up promising the world, saying how they could pay more for the same contracts with Royal Mail etc.
I asked them directly what work they had available starting the next day and they suddenly became a bit shy about available work and pay rates - But they would put me top of the list when there was work available
I had it happen to me too. Taking them up on it worked well. Plenty of work, pay went up a bit, holiday pay was put in a pot for every hour I worked so none of that average of 12 weeks which always screws you. Then again I had a very good relationship with them when they were working at the agency which is a bit different than being called up by someone who you don’t recognise at first.
