The perverse logic, selective memory, and cherry picking of information, from some on this thread is astounding.
How some choose an outcome they would wish for, and then try to make facts fit their preferred target is truly amazing.
.
No need to have politicians tell lies when so many are adept at deceiving themselves.
With the WWW out there we should be in a position of greater knowledge, but for some reason, we have many actively choosing to go unreliable and biased news sources, just to keep their own prejudices alive, and not challenge their own world view.
Brexit and COVID show the same signs: ignore uncomfortable data, and shout louder that it must all be a conspiracy, rather than try to understand a complex situation.
.

Because everything on the WWW is factual and unbiased !!! and no I don’t have a link to prove that so you can just dismiss it as lies if you’re that way inclined

“Everything on the WWW is factual and unbiased !!!”
Of course it isn`t. I certainly never said it was.

If you’re going to quote use the whole quote as missing off “Because” changes the tone of the statement. People read items and form opinions, their opinion will depend on where they get their information if you are left leaning then papers such as the Guardian or Independent are more likely to share your opinion same as if you’re to the right then the Telegraph or Mail are more likely to be your paper of choice. With the printed press you generally know where the papers interests are and with the checks and balances in place know that they are mainly telling the truth all be it from their perspective, the internet on the other hand, unregulated, no real means of checking how accurate an item is, so it is easier for people to dismiss these articles if they disagree with them by discrediting the author or establishment that has written them. With regards to the BBC I don’t think their news output is biased however a lot of their programmes push a left leaning agenda in a soft way that may not be so easily noticed.

Sorry if you thought the abbreviated quote was misleading, it wasnt meant to be, and the full original was included above it. Yep, I pretty much agree with much of that post. I was thinking earlier, more of those who choose to read and believe sites that are (I suggest) visibly biased, and ignore (using your example) the BBC, unless they pick out any little scraps that agree with their opinions. Surely we are all the worst judges of our own prejudices? Maybe some of us try to recognize that and try to see other view points, but some are blind to the possibility of being fallible. At this point, maybe youre thinking that Im putting myself in this category and so kidding myself Im immune? Could go round in circles forever!

I hope that you are not telling me that the WWW is not the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Wow I really am confused now. If I cannot believe the WWW, Twitter, Facebook. who do I listen to. Answers on a postcard please. And whilst I am waiting I will read the 67 different figures that the WWW has given us all for the same statistic. And THAT is the truth.

Just remember. Everybody has the right to their own opinion, but then again I might be wrong… “Lighten up its all a game”

I was waiting for a good punch line here Luke… Such a weird chap or something equally descriptive and correct.

Less than 3 months ago I was lying near death and dying on the side of the road with a broken neck, a broken back, a broken shoulder blade, a dislocated shoulder, a smashed up arm, a smashed up rib cage and a collapsed lung and a f**ked up stomach. I was flown to hospital, my family told I was probably going to die, which lots of people would have. I left hospital after several weeks, 3 spent in an induced coma during which I underwent multiple operations to put my destroyed body back together, in severe pain, with a new metal rib cage, serious memory loss going back years, an eye that I couldn’t see out of and unable to even stand let alone walk (have had to learn again) so with all that and along with the massive pain I still often suffer trust me it really takes a bit more to rattle me than some anonymous internet weirdo criticizing me occasionally. But quaint that you thought you were getting to me though, your naivety and innocence is sort of charming really  Try again old fruit

Yeah I’ve like most attracted a fair few anonymous internet freaks over the years. Always hilarious how they ALWAYS think without fail they get to you when in reality they are at best mildly entertaining but alas in this case just dull. I’m sure he’s entertaining in his head though

I’m sorry Luke, but how did this all happen to you? Car accident? Motorbike?

Really bad car accident with another car and a gate!

Sounds ■■■■, glad you are alive.

Very sorry to hear all that Luke. I hope you feel better soon

For the rest of you, it’s lucky we don’t every meet up in real life as it would look like a fight scene from Asterix the Gaul (and yes, I am showing my age)

Well, we’re halfway, some on here talk Obollox.

Good lord, I wouldn’t exactly describe you’re accident as bad Luke, more like horrendous or severe. I had a motorcycle accident two years ago where I broke my wrist, leg and ankle. That was bad enough. You’res sounds more “lucky to be alive” fella. I took a year to fully heal up, 6 months in pot no weight bearing and was a nightmare. Best wishes to a speedy recovery although it is a long road to recovery, you will at least get there.

Oh I’m very very lucky to be here. In another life where help took a little longer to arrive or I wasn’t helped by such amazing people I’d be a memory now. The police drove my sister to Cardiff under blue lights and sirens at frankly insane speeds because the doctors told them I was dying and unlikely to survive and they didn’t want me to die alone. Everyone has been remarkable. My personality is completely different, for the better I’m much more positive and happy now believe it or not. My recovery has been incredible, I found strength and determination I never knew I had. So as I said the chances of ANYONE getting to me at all for anything let alone some faceless internet weirdo is slim to non existent but quaint that he thought he was though. Why do I reply to him? Because it’s funny and I enjoy waiting to see what incredible words of wisdom he’ll come up with next  And I’m part way through 12 weeks of isolation and enjoy the entertainment

Hey Luke, good to hear you’re on the mend, sounds as if you’ve been through the ■■■■ big style mate.
When do you expect to be fully fit for work?

You say your personality is different, no offence intended here btw, just an observation… but I did notice you’ve came across as having a bit of an edge to some obnoxious posts aimed at you, where as before you would have just let it wash over you.
I remember you pulling me up a couple of times in the past on here, for not letting some crap go aimed at me by some d/head or another, where I HAD to have the last word, …so welcome to my world. :

Hope you make a full recovery soon btw.

Thank you. Maybe I just have less patence for morons now! And yeah I’m a bit freer with the insults than maybe I was as I just think now ‘what the hell’. But also it’s probably something to do with lockdown and isolation. I’ll probably just return to ignoring the clinically stupid when I’ve more to do beyond keep the sofa warm watching Netflix. Going back to work depends on the eye injury recovering which it is but slowly so no real timescale yet

Look upon it as a holiday/ a break away from the crap, and make the best of it as I did for 6 weeks.
Netflix and box sets do pass away the time, and especially if you find something you like, it’s like a book you can not put down.
I binged out on about 55 episodes of ‘Seal Team’ on Sky  …, much to the annoyance of my Mrs.:  ,… I also got into the bad habit of staying up to about 4am, and getting up about 11 ish, which made it bloody difficult when I started back in.

Keep your chin up mate, you’ll be back to normal before you know it.
