war1974:
didn’t the government give them the land to build on so its actually not their land to charge for?
Way back in the day that was the case, one defence against tickets being “it’s illegal to re lease leased land”. Afaik that has changed now with them all being privately owned. I’m sure Speedyguy will be along shortly to give a definitive answer as this appears to be his pet hobby horse.
But for those ordering steak this is how to order your steak preference in France
• Bleu - Done on a very hot grill for 1 minute on each side.
• Saignant - Meaning bloody. Very rare, but cooked slightly longer on the second side than a ‘bleu’ steak.
• A point - rare for British standards. This implies that a steak is cooked a little longer than a ‘seignon’ one.
• Bien cuit - ‘well cooked’. This level will still often have some pinkness in the middle of the meat. A ‘bien cuit steak’ is cooked until the juices run brown on the surface of the steak.
• Très bien cuit (!) - should get you a steak that is totally cooked through!
When I order my steak I just tell them to blow its nose and wipe its a r s e, they get the idea how I like it!!
lolipop:
Go on most routes in EU and there are Public parking areas, your not compelled to park on extortionate rip off services areas
Are they the ones on the toll roads ?
Nope not necessarily, not all motorway sections in France are toll roads, but you still don’t pay at the services, nether in Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, don’t pay in Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy.
Seems that the rest of (or rasthof )Europe sees the service areas as a service to the road using public, not a way of charging it’s users of to park up for a rest as required by law for truck drivers and recommended for all drivers or to offer them overpriced sub standard products.

Trubster…i`m afraid for me its the bottom one on the fork and done a bit more for luck…Tre. tre bienque or something like that.
Robroy…or is it rob or is it roy that is the question…anyway mate, you are spot on…its only the idiots who pay extortionate parking , but probably dont care cos its the boss who pays, and the likes of maritime etc who have a permit to pay what they like…but i digress… I run on foreign plates, i use the services quite a lot when in the uk, but have always believed that no one should have to pay for parking, and as quoted most of europe do not charge or if they do they refund it if you spend…in the uk you spend average £25 and they give a discount of around £9 which would just about buy a burger and chips ha ha. on saying that i park fopr weekends in Thurrock where they have good facilities, and different food outlets ( a breakfast is just over £4 ).
We have been ripped off for such a long time and should fight back as i do, i never paid when i worked on uk plates and just ignored the tickets as they are not enforceable, but drivers get scared when they see the writing on the tickets threatening them with court, bailiffs etc…By the way…my truck/trailer was parked in thurrock for 5 weeks, went over 2 weeks ago to move the unit to MAN for major work, and m,aybe there for another week or so, and i`m not paying one penny…good for me eh !

So when you’re all complaining about a lack of parking and facilities there’s one of your problems right there

Hey T/b.I have you down as an old style ‘proper driver’ with mutual respect (I hope) as you make me look like a newbie so call me what the hell you like. Whatever you choose you can sure as hell bet I’ve been called a lot worse (especially on here…love it )
The rest of the not so experienced with the wet licences and stabilisers fitted…I prefer SIR
They are not fines, they are extortionate parking rate charges and legally unenforcible, only idiots ever pay the demands that fall on your mat, and I don’t care what anyone says to the contrary !
A chip shop owner has lost his Supreme Court battle over parking charges.
Barry Beavis, 47, of Chelmsford, Essex, claimed an £85 charge for breaching a two-hour limit in the town in April 2013 was “unfair and disproportionate”.
The Court of Appeal dismissed Mr Beavis’s claim against management company ParkingEye.
He appealed to the Supreme Court, but judges there have also reject his case. The company said its charges were “fair” and “legally enforceable”.
Mr Beavis, who owns The Happy Haddock chip shop in Billericay, was charged by ParkingEye after over-staying the free parking period at Riverside Retail Park by nearly an hour.

I agree with you. Unsecured old credit card debts are not enforceable either. The newer contracts might be - but not those from before 2005.
“When someone asks you for money, and says the law is on their side - give them nowt, don’t even speak to them - and if they choose to make you bankrupt? - that’s nearly a grand you’ve saved right there compared to going bankrupt yourself!”
