Foreign insurance

is it possible to get vehicle insurance in say Holland for a vehicle on UK plates without re registering it.
the reason for this. Dutch insurance is peanuts compared to here.

I do it the other way round, £300 fully comp for Europe wide wide insurance on a UK car based in Germany…

Which probably means the answer to your question is no

I like your thinking Phil, a quick google shows this (with a test case !!)…

it looks like a long winded way of doing it.
you need to take the vehicle abroad, re register it, then insure it, then bring it back.
what’s the difference with keeping it on UK plates? It’s the same vehicle.

hi there,
Am… who can explain me how the agency works with the insurance policy? Everywhere I called they keep asking me about my licence, how long I held them. It is hard to find any job, coz I’m a new boy and they scare about insurance. I passed my class 2 two months ago;/
Might be anyone has any advice about it or something to say?

Sorry if I wrote down my post in wrong topic.
Many thanks.

your difficulty isn’t anything to with where you are from, your age, male/female, or even experience. many drivers seem to have difficulty finding work when he/she hasn’t held a licence for 2 years. it’s crazy.

and yes, it’s in the wrong place.

just do what they do (no english, no english), but in reverse.
no polski, no polski.

On a side note when i was in germany whilst in the army my car (right hand drive and on english plates) was insured by a company called lvm if i remember correctly.
A darn site cheaper than any quote i have ever had over here and that was with no noclaims and having held my license only a year.
Dont know if it was a clause with being a uk soldier or whether anybody could do it, no problems with the language barrier either the chap in their office probably spoke better english than me!?!

Just had a mooch on google and this came up

I couldnt get a quote using my phone but their underwriters are based in america? Could somebody bored try it out lol?

You should have an insurance claim form (in English) with you when you travel abroad. You can use that or the one the other party is using as they are identical and the questions in each box are exactly the same only in a different language.

When I had to fill one in I read the question on my English form and put the answer on his Spanish one.
As its a legal requirement to have an insurance form at all times, I got to keep my unused insurance form should I get pulled.

I can get an Irish insurer to insure a vehicle on UK plates…but it’s at least 3x dearer than UK insurance and if it’s on cover for more than 42 days they are obliged to grass you up to the Revenue as they’ll be wanting their big fat wad of VRT :unamused:
