Kevwall:
I was parked up in rugby truck stop last night and there was about 10 Lithuanian wagons parked up I think the company was transvista or something like that. Anyway all the wagons where empty then a mini bus pulls up with all the drivers and all there tramping gear, will some of these just be based over here and maybe just came back to work from having the festive time off■■? Found it odd them having the wagons parked up empty then all the drivers turning up in a mini bus to start work !
I wonder if these truks were paying the parking fees while they were parked. When I was shipping out on a sunday I used to see lots of foreign trucks parked on Thurrock.I wondered if they paid parking, they always did their laundry in the shower room.
regards dave.

Loads of rhd old wrecks on bg and ro plates pulling out of purfleet and tilbury. How do i know i see them every day of the week.
Best thing they could do is rebuild the berlin wall .
I do take the comment quite personally about scumbags as my partner is Bulgarian, of all the Bulgarians I know personally living in and working in this country NOT ONE is thieving or has ever claimed any benefits, in fact quite a few have set up businesses and are employing people all are paying tax, and at least 4 are buying their own houses, the comment is BIGOTED AND BOARDING RACEST
There are more thieving scumbags from our own population than ever will come over from Bulgaria
I dont blame the people from the east coming here i would if i was them i blame the western european leaders for selling the working classes down the river.
Im sick of seeing forigeners come here and we have to adapt to them. Every site i go on has signs in 20 different langauges and as soon as something is done wrong they come up with no english.
As for homegrown scumbags stop all benefits after six months and if you kerp knocking out babies cap there benefits at the level for two kids.
Do away with silly jail scentences and drug referals bang them up for a decent stretch and make them go cold turkey.
I agree Wildfire, problem is the Western European companies and politicians who bring in these policies because of their personal greed or ideology. And of course the biggest problem is us, we want cheap food, cheap goods, and we don’t really care where they’re made and who makes them or transports them and what pay and conditions they worked under.
As for Cabotage, the rescrictions were supposed to be lifted in 2014, but under pressure from various countries, industry groups and transport unions, claiming it would have a massive effect on their own haulage industries it has been shelved for the moment. But there are still those who want it and have probably gone back to regroup.
In all I’ve read about it, I haven’t seen the UK government, the RHA or FTA or UK unions putting pressure to keep cabotage.
It seems the main pressure came from French and Scandinavian trade organisations, but many others Western Europe are increasingly against librilising cabotage regs.
It’s time to ask our own representatives where they stand on the subject and what pressure they’ve been putting on the EU not to remove it?

I know that and you know that.
I’m not seeing it. Obviously that doesn’t mean it doesn’t go on. But for the most part they are hauling stuff legally on internation journeys as has been said.

if the drivers from poland are driving french-registered lorries and are paid according to french employment laws, that is legal. if they are driving polish lorries and doing international work, that is legal as well. no need to confuse ill business ethics with illegal.
I think ND got in to trouble mainly because these Polish/Romaian drivers where on paper doing international work, but when investigated it was found that many were doing internal work within France and in contravention of the cabotage regulations. My point on this whole subject, which many seem totally oblivious to is that many of these large companies who flag out their trucks and bring in foreign drivers for supposedly international work, will do exactly the same if and when cabotage is abolished and those same Romanian registered, Romanian driver ND trucks will then legally be working 365 days per year within France and similar things will happen in every other country. If our own international transport sectors were absolutely destroyed in the face of competition from Eastern European firms who operate at costs far lower than is ever possible in the west, why do people think nothing will change with the end of cabotage for domestic work. Ostrich’s bury their head in the sand, people should be able to open their eyes a bit more to the reality around them.
This is pictures from Denmark of Polish, Lithuanian, Bulgarian… Trucks parked up over Christmas.
99% of them are doing cabotage work, never going home for anything else than inspections. Drivers paid around 500€ a month. youtube.com/watch?v=DjLwznfAd-g
Recently it was a Cabotage study, an ap for apple and android was made to Tag reg plates around the countries to see how they moved around

Mike C I’m not sure how you edited the quote, but the bit in red is KR79’s and a response to my post. Cheers
There was a few foreign units at Birkenhead, They would lift one of there own trailers from the dock that had been shipped from Ireland, That trailer would go to Harwich (i think), Then they’d lift another from there and trunk it back to birkenhead. I didn’t see a problem with it. It looked like a sensible idea.

The nationality of the driver has nothing to do with the cabotage regs, what ND probably got into trouble for was flouting restrictions on workers from Eastern Europe that most Countries, except the UK, Ireland and Sweden, signed up for when 10 countries joined the EU in 2004.
As I posted earlier the lifting of cabotage rescrictions have been put on hold, after pressure from many Western European countries, who are responding to the same concerns about thier domestic haulage industry being undercut. But it will be back on the agenda, soon enough.

I know, but they were not driving in France in a French truck, they were doing it in a Romanian registered truck, which in itself is a violation of cabotage as they were doing more than 3 journeys per 7 days.
It was my understanding that ND bought a Romanian firm, made it a ND subsidiary and then flagged out previously French registered and driven trucks to become Romanian registered and driven, utilising his new Romanian subsidiary. These now Romanian trucks carried on exactly as before, on French domestic work and the drivers were shipped in on rotational contracts every so many weeks/months from Romania.

I’ve got to agree with our Canadian exiles here, Mike.
At Killingholme, double manned BG units are pulling Ewals trailers out of the port on a daily basis.
At The Hoek the parking area near the booking office is full of RO and BG tractor units waiting for trailers.
Of course, on the mainland cabotage regulations can be easily circumvented. A quick trip across the border to reset the clock and everybody’s “legal”.
However, in the UK the geographical constraints of being on an island do not lend themselves to such cabotage avoidance tactics.
But the big players will not let cabotage laws get in the way of their lucrative UK business. Cabotage is rife in the UK and the chances of being busted are slight. The rewards are great and the odd confiscated tractor unit will be a minor blip in the accounts.

That makes more sense, rarely see an ND unit on French plates out of France these days, used to be loads of Polish one and now loads of Romainian ones, I wonder if that means loads of Polish drivers have lost their jobs at ND to be replaced by Romianians?
As one who travelled extensively throughout the continent when the British International Haulier was cheaper than the rest and now as an immigrant worker it would be hypocrisy for me (and many others) to condone the drivers/operators who are now “nicking” work off the British Hauliers. I do however have issues with the way VOSA choose to police the industry, there are many foreign operations set up to clearly break the law and they, for the most part, go about their business with no interference, whereas the British Hauliers are subject to intense scrutiny from the authorities
The scumbags at the top of the food chain are interested in just one thing: their bottom line.
Thanks to the European Union, they now have an almost inexhaustible supply of cheap labour with which to replace their indigenous workforce.
It matters to them not one iota if their (or another) country goes down the toilet due to rapidly rising unemployment and social unrest. Profits are up, the shareholders are happy and that’s all that matters.
The EU is rapidly becoming responsible for a growing polarization of society. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.
It’s only a matter of time before it all kicks off big style.
Bit surprised at Kr’s post, anyway I employ a Romanian guy he came to me from a colleague who had only good things to say about him,he is an honest hard working family man and a great driver with vehicle sympathy, have never had a cross word with him plus he is paid well in excess of what seems to be a acceptable wage for many on TNUK, btw re East Euro hauliers check out the parking area near Nells Cafe on the A2 seems to the operating base for the BG haulage industry now I know where the ex RM & Argos DAF’s are based

Firstly I’d doubt wether we’re talking about the same level of undercutting, cabotage and other country traffic operations,in the case of British international operations then,as opposed to East European ones of today. While it’s also not a like with like comparison in the case of North American operations at least until Mexican operators and labour are given the same freedom to work throughout North America as East European ones have here.
Nothing personal just ive had more bad experinces with drivers from the east than good ones.
Most where i work seem to loose all ability to speak english as soon as theres a problem and listening to certain hauliers in my area in the cafe boasting how they only want eastern euros working for them as they work for less and do what there told however 9 times out of 10 its there motors burried in a car or a push bike wrapped round the axles and get on the tip burried to the ■■■■■■■■.
Mind you plenty of british drivers fit in this mould.

Geoffrey you have no idea
Firstly the reason we were doing the job was because we were cheaper and that’s a fact.
Secondly, how about trip money wages, belly tanks full of red diesel, dodgy credit cards, phoenix companies, running day and night, doing cabotage on groupage collections/deliveries for a drink etc etc etc.
These Eastern Europeans are angels compared to most of the British International Hauliers

Don’t worry mate I know where you’re coming from on this, boasting in the cafe (Mapps?) the lot of them are bell ends, all down the pan given time ,sorry to say there are plenty of Brit drivers who are total knob jockeys as it happens so what next for us guys?
