Ford Cargo

Hi i own a Ford Cargo 1624 which has the ■■■■■■ engine with an eight speed range change gearbox and is looking for a clutch stave cylinder which is air assisted. I’ve have tried Phillips Commercials, they have one listed on ebay and have tried it but it doesn’t fit because the square flange in the middle of the unit fouls up on the gearbox. I’ve sent my one to Past Parts in Essex of which they said they could do it and sent it back to me and after 10 miles the so called recon unit gave up. Any thoughts any one where i may find one or have this one repaired. Many thanks

Try Cliff fletcher of Oldham someone on here could know his number ,if not I can get it at the weekend ,he’s a ford font of knowledge ,and has loads of new old stock.

Some further options:

  1. Give Roger Hastings a call over in Norwich (assuming you are not him as he also has an ultra rare 1624 as well). He has a lot of bits and will more than likely know where to get one if he hasn’t got it on the shelf. His number is available on Google (RJ Hastings Haulage Ltd)

  2. If all else fails, give Barry Phillips Motors of Auckland, New Zealand a call. Most of the heavy weight Cargos were exported out there back in the 90’s and a good aftermarket spares base exists there. Barry Phillips was the original importer of Cargos from here and they still hold a lot of bits for ■■■■■■■ engined stuff. Might seem a bit extreme, but it’s a last resort option. Also top and bottom coolant hoses for these are impossible to get and I recently imported some from NZ as an example.

Also, imo (and experience), both Cargo Spares of Westbury and Phillips Commercials of Nuneaton are only really interested in the ‘Horsebox’ market and hold very few heavier weight bits…

Did you get sorted out Steve ?
