Might be a way in for a young un…(que the miserable old gits)…
At the risk of sounding like the ‘miserable old gits’…£10400 per annum doesn’t seem very attractive. (some might say they’ll be starting their career on low pay, just so they can get used to knowing what to expect from there onwards) It looks very much like a career of trying to get into building sites every day, not a lot of fun in that!
Cemex can’t get drivers, Driver Hire have been trying to recruit for Wickwar quarry for ages, but the money’s crap.

That relates to the listed “good Maths” criteria, as if you apply, you have failed!

How will this affect the countless owner drivers who are tied to Cemex I wonder■■?
■■■■■■■ JOKE!
Level 2 qualification in driving a good vehicle…?
How could that ever be different to a licence?
Cemex (or RMC as it was locally then 12 + years ago) used to pay their own drivers a fixed wage and it was about 9 grand a year more than I was on at the same time but I suppose times change and ‘a new broom sweeps clean’ etc? They were very hot on hours though, if you had a break that wasn’t an ‘official one’ then wages were docked. To me they seemed a decent company compared to ‘Tossmac’ but as I said, times change.
Pete.

Well, at their depot in Horton near Heathrow airport, they’re using an agency which pays drivers £13/hr for class 1 tipper work (not sure what they pay class 2 tipper drivers), and that’s just in the first week. Though they’re not promising ongoing work, to my knowledge.

Ditto in Staffordshire too. Driver Hire can’t get drivers for the Cemex plants round here either.
To be fair, as an employed driver with the big companies, you can earn good money.
This ad is an apprenticeship scheme, so the money ain’t the best, but, for example, the lads doing dust out of Ketton for Hanson were, a year or two ago, on 35ish K a year for a 48 hr week, if not a bit more.
