Food...

After one night the saucepan went in the bin, after eating, i sat there and just looked about at all the dirty saucepan, knifes and all the over crap.
And the cab stunk the morning after of onion.
However, i did have bread, butter, milk, biscuits, crisps, sandwich fillers such as tuna, corned beef, all that, plus tinned fruit and coronation cream stuff, so this week, its salads and sarnies all the way
Plus crunchy nut cornflakes
And for drink, i had squash, tea, and beer.
I bought a 20 litre Jeri can, washed it out loads of times, anyway, went to fill me kettle tuesday afternoon and the water that came out was brown, so thats going, i bought a plastic one at swindon truckstop and it works fine!

Cav203k:
Hey Cof, ever tried that Nescafe in a can? (do something to the can [ shake it or something] & it heats up the contents)
I cannot recomend the stuff, even when half awake at 05.00 its not very nice :frowning:

Haven’t tried that, haven’t been that desperate…yet.

I’ll bear your advice in mind and avoid it now.

They stopped making the stuff …because no one bought it! mind you at Ā£1.75 a cup it was cheeper to stop at a MSA! :open_mouth:

The Mrs. made me buy some a couple of years ago when we holidayed in Perranporth, horrible stuff…never seen it since, that explains why
Funny that, I can do a full 10 hours driving in my truck without problem, doing 7 hours drive in the car (with breaks) is a killer !

The fridge I have is a Coolmatic RHD50,it’s a compressor fridge which runs on 12/24v and will freeze down to -18c. It’s specially made to fit in the passenger side locker of an FH Volvo, though I think that might be a problem in the new generation FH’s(coffeeholic??) as I think they have an electronic box fiited in there now.As coffeeholic said, the cooler type boxes only cool down to a few degrees below the ambient temperature and are heavy on battery drain.
My fridge is on 24/7 and will shut down before the batteries drain.

I generally carry butter, cheese, ham, salami etc.for sarnies as well as milk and some fruit. And of course beer!

I don’t carry a gas stove any more, though I am seriously thinking about investing in a microwave.

I only drink tea when I’m at home at the weekends, during the week I brew fresh coffee every morning.

My days of being ā€˜cab happy’ are long gone and so I prefer to eat at a restaurant in the evening, though not in the UK!

Ive not carried a gas cooker for years since I saw that Daf in Stefan Bauwens TTZ. A driver had a few too many pinchers and tried to make a cup of tea. Not a lot left after leaving the gas on and it ignited.

I have seen people in Ludwigshafen doing a fry up in the side lockers of an acetone tanker. not big, not clever :astonished:

I would sooner have an hour or two away from the cab in a restaurant or bar

I’m with you there Wheel Nut.
For emergencies, stuck somewhere well out of reach of pub grub :open_mouth: (over 1 - 2 miles) I carry some pasta and slop-in sauce tubs. I’ve got water, coffee, sugar and a small gas cooker, kettle and a saucepan which means I can brew-up any time I like. I also carry a couple cans of beer to wash the pasta down with  .

You can always self cater and then have a couple of hours away from the cab, best of both worlds.

I usually self cater but at this time of year though that changes. Because it is asparagus season most of the truckstops and restaurants are doing their special asparagus menus and I can’t resist.
