Folkestone? whats it like to live/work/play?

What is the general thinking on Folkestone?

Buying and renting Property seems very cheap compared to London where i am now, seems to be as cheap as many places up north yet is only an hour from the smoke.

Seems to be some decent properties in reasonable areas, lovely countryside whilst on the coast with a short hop to France.

Is there enough work (class 2) down there as you have the ports etc? as well as all the regular delivery stuff you would have around any half decent size town■■?

What about Maidstone/Mid Kent, its only 30 mins away and seems to have work around there.

Any sensible information appreciatted…

Folkstone has its nice parts like anywhere but its grim the seafront is non existant and last time i visited loads of east europeans and afgans causin havoc and the pay is low in that part of kent. There was a fair bit of driving work in maidstone but slowly dissapearing to sittingbourn

Cheers mate, i guess there may be a migrant problem being close to the channel.

Housing seems to be cheap so wages could also be low…

Not really any truck driving work in Folkestone, there’s some in Dover (but nowhere near as much as there was 15-20 years ago) but £8 an hour is a fairly good wage anywhere in east Kent. Sittingbourne is the best bet for work but it’s a fair commute from Folkestone.

It got run down in late 90s early 2000s when immigrants where not being spread around the country other local towns where his worse . Money seems to be stuck around the 430 mark

The only positive thing I’ve got to say about Folkestone is that it’s better than Dover.
