Fog Lights

Rob K:
I’d use rear fog lights only when it’s foggy and as per Davey’s post above. I would never use them in rain, regardless of how heavy it is or how bad the surface water spray is.

Same here. I think that the last time my fog lights were used was for the MOT.

Fog lights and middle lane hoggers are my pet hates.

Davey Driver:
One bug bear I have though is trucks with all the spots along the roof, they come around a corner and despite you having dipped your lights, they insist on letting you see their truck in all its glory lit up like one big ball of light

By all means use the spots as much as you want, but dip them before you dazzle the oncoming vehicles driver it really [zb] annoying

I’m with Davey on this one.I drive the A9 five nights a week. There are several sections where you can see ahead for two or three miles but the road passes through small cuttings. It quite often happens that when a truck with these lights is in one of these cuttings you can see the roof lights but not the headlights, but the driver will not dip his lights until he can physically see you.
One particularly bad section is the split level dual-carriageway at Drumochter,if they are on the higher level.
Even if they are on an open section, they leave it as long as possible before dipping.
Come on boys. Show a little more consideration please.

While on the subject of these lights, what effect do they have on fuel economy? Surely the altenator is having to work harder to charge the batteries, thus taking more power from the engine to drive it,increasing fuel consumption.
I’m sure I read an article once which said if you fit a full air management kit to a tractor unit ,you get an improvement of 1 or 2 m.p.g(I think),but mount four lights on the roof and they negate the effect of the f.a.m.k.

I thought that was the point of an airflow kit, to support the lights, and support the lights :open_mouth: :unamused:
