Fodens.

coomsey:
Nice selection Kempston, did you drive any Fodens ? Cheers Paul

I did briefly but I had seven where I was transport manager. Very reliable lorries and the drivers liked them too. Visited Fodens factory to see a new one I ordered going through the production process. From the first nut and bolts that vehicle is yours and goes through the factory in your colours. Such a shame we lose yet another quality company. :frowning:

Spardo:
Rather posh mudguards on the Sam Longson tipper?

Posh mudguards Spardo, but seemingly no indicators fitted!

Yes, but nobody had them in those days, did they? I can’t remember.

That must be a 50s Foden , single wiper , little mirror dates it . I drove many like that in my early days and I don’t think indicators came as standard on Fodens until the S21 model appeared . I also remember at that time the accelerator pedal was still in the middle between the clutch and brake pedals . Dave

MM, S39 n 80/83 me, they had their bad bits, like all. Only one breakdown, HOT diff n that was the tyre mans fault, n she was 15yrs old with original driveline. But the gearbox was a treat to use, to quote Larry a gear for every situation. A good tool in their day

Ryton Gravels last Foden, based at Crawcrook Quarry, taken 1980, only Volvos
followed this.
An apology to my embarrassed son, now 44.

If you worked at Cliffe you needed to know your way around 12sp box. NMP

Foden advert.

They were a lovely cab, plenty of room and comfortable and even the 3000 series narrow one that I had wasn’t bad either.

Pete.

Are you on “the drink” again Larry or what ! :open_mouth:     Cheers my mate, Dennis.

Now then Dennis there was nowt wrong with Fodens but it took a proper driver to use a Foden 12 speed . Happen your lads just didn’t come up to scratch . Got to say though the 680 Leyland were streets ahead of the Gardners but a tad thirstier , so being as frugal as you were/are maybe not for you . Dave
