foden 4450

In 1989 i was given a brand new foden 4450 6x4 with the cat 3406 450 bhp and a 13 speed fuller box,it had the high roof cab round US style alloy tanks. chrome induction and exhaust rear mounted at the back of the cab.on some trips to germany many locals were impressed having never seen one.i spent a week end at carisio and a guy with a 142 took the ■■■■ the whole time, his face was a picture  as it steamed past him on the steepest bit of the climb up the blanc.Looking back it was a bit of a weapon, wondering if there are any left as must have been one of the most powerful British built trucks

They also built some Foden 4000’s with a 525 bph ■■■■■■■ and I seem to recall some with the 600 signature ■■■■■■■ as well , I did see the 525 one with a flat trailer on loaded with girders early 90s though.
cheers Johnnie

Iam not 100% sure but the foden never got the 600 sig ,but it’s thought Erf got them in export spec ,one for mr Hackford to provide evidence !

Not heard of an ERF 600 sig; but here’s an export Spanish-registered EC with 525 ■■■■■■■ power. Robert

Question is where is it now ? And was it N reg (96 ) when this was tested or was the engine tried in a N reg but in 99 ish ,it was thought that the Ecx would get the signature ,No Rush ? Well you wouldn’t need to with that ey ?

I drove a Pete with a 3406 425 Cat in New York in the late 1980’s and was amazed at its stump pulling torque on the day. Like your situation, I was comparing it to a 143 for performance…but there was no contest…the 3406 was in a league of its own. To actually drive it by the ‘seat of the pants’ it felt more like a 550/600bhp engine. I believe the 14 litre block of the 3406 was good for up to 800bhp in standard trim?

Meltdown no, but I would swop the Mighty 405 for it.

If anyone on here does know where the 600 ■■■■■■■ ERF as pictured above is please please let me know .
