I would do an oil analysis and check for cross contamination of fuel or coolant, fuel is, as you know, a spirit and will break down oil, glycol in antifreeze will attack zinc, zinc is one of the primary coatings used in metal to metal contact surfaces within an engine. It could be a leaky injector cup on that cylinder only so that the contamination is diluted by the time it reaches the rest of the engine, but still strong enough to cause damage at source

A good point defiantly something to consider.

Any update on what the cause of this was?..It looks like a blocked oil gallery?..We use Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer lucasoil.co.uk/products.php? … product=12 in all of our engines, gearboxes & rear axles…excellent product…it gives great protection to an assembly when lubrication breaks down or dissappears!.. and I always extend oil change intervals by at least 50% whist using it…We rarely(if ever) strip an engine, transmission or rear axle these days

Probably been caused by leaving the truck idling!

its false economy to extend the oil change interval to 50% i would say unless anyone with more knowlage than me can explain where all the carbon, soot,■■■■,contamination goes as the oil will only absorb so much!

Been doing it all my life Moose…never changed oil under 50,000kms in a tractor unit…35,000km in 7.5-12 tonners…Mercedes diesel cars normally run about 25,000-30,000miles. Haven’t taken a sump or a head off an engine in donkey’s years. I found it more important to use a good quality oil,OE filters and don’t rev the engine cold, especially don’t rev the engine cold!

We always get 800,000km plus from the 7.5-12 tonners…1.5millionkm plus from tractor units…400,000 miles from the car engines…and no problems.

I think you tend to do what’s best for you!..i change my oil far more often and still use good quality oil lol
