Flying Dutchman!

I’m between J14 and J15, northbound, on the M40, at aprroximately 2320 hrs last night, when this Dutch DAF XF ‘wagon and drag’ comes hurtling past me. Scared the ‘bejesus’ out of me! I know you can get to 90+ mph, fully freighted, down a long hill but he must have been doing 90+ mph on the flat, undertaking cars on the outside lane!

Expect he was late for another flower delivery :sunglasses:

As if Dutch registered trucks would ever speed … tsk :open_mouth:

Undertaking cars on the outside lane . Can you explain to me how that one works please

You drive in either of the left hand two lanes and go faster than the cars in the right hand lane, thereby undertaking the cars that are on the outside lane.

At least that’s what I assume he means.

Undertaking cars on the outside lane? Can you explain to me how that one works please?

Do you want me to explain the principles of undertaking to you? I’ll draw you a picture, if it’ll make it any easier for you…!

Couldn’t have put it any better myself…!

I had to check my map - I saw a foreign Wagon and drag pulled in by the old bill on the M4 at about 0100 hrs last night. Doubt it was the same on though!

well well surprise me…another foreigner speeding…my son in law lives and works in holland on international work…most companies pay the fines…and if caught speeding the driving licence is not affected…same as in holland …you more or less have to kill someone to lose your licence…no points system either …unlike the uk…so theres the reason why so many foreigners speed…
and i thought that as a member of the e.u. we all have the same rules…but it seems our government crackpots add a bit here and there just to make life that little bit more harder
have a nice day

only one wagon and drag ya wanna try being on the a14 after the evening boats come in at harwich i had 5 blast past me the other night if ya look in ya mirror and all you can see is lights just breath in and hang on its like standing next to a railway line when a fast trains going by mind you saying that them v8 scannys sound nice with side pipes on

The wording was appalling, Brummie. ‘Undertaking cars on the outside lane’ suggests that you are already in the outside lane. If you had correctly said ‘undertaking cars (that are) in the outside lane’ then it would have made perfect sense.

:bulb:

No, you’re splitting hairs, trying to be clever…!

Tut tut tut - I can’t be doing with nit pickers

or is that :unamused:

I can’t be bothered with nit pickers

Are Dutch drivers usually that bad? I know that Belgians are notoriously bad drivers, so is this a common thing across the BeNeLux region?

BTW, over here in the states, “undertaking” is something done only by morticians…

Dutch drivers were once renowned to be the most professional drivers in Europe, but unfortunately even their standards have slipped.

Most middle aged Belgian drivers have never taken a test as they were very late in joining the club.

Does it make it ok to Undertake in a left hand drive truck? Its the same as Overtaking in Europe :stuck_out_tongue:

No  , I tryed it on the GRA round Rome and got a small fine. I explained that as I was in a LHD wagon I was overtaking not undertaking , :open_mouth: the Polizia wouldn’t go for that :unamused: :unamused: . Maybe I would have had a bigger fine if he had been in a bad mood, he did laugh at me and my excuse   .
