flt or hiab

Im interested in doing either of these courses. I can’t seem to find out how much either one would cost. I would be doing it off my own back so i would need the ticket to cover me to go any where. also which one am i likely to get more work from? as im still within my 2 year no experience period with my lgv?
also which type of flt is the one to do. and does a hiab ticket cover you to use a grab, a brick grab and a crane or are they all seperate tickets?

many thanks :stuck_out_tongue:

Used to work in a warehouse and the flt guys didn’t earn much more than the standard pickers/pallet builders (£6.00 an hour ish at Booker) probas about £150 - £200 per day for a few days worth of course i expect,

is hiab basically were you have a crane on the actual flatbed and it lifts the bricks etc off

Joe,

Personally I would go for the HIAB. As has been said FLT drivers don’t get much more money than pickers/packers but the HIAB will make you a lot more attractive to agency/employer as it will show that you are willing to improve your knowledge/vocational qualifications.

I think HIAB is about £150-£250, depends who you do it with , but the forklift is a lot more expensive (I did mine through the navy but they had to pay £90 a day for a 4 day course for us to do it with a civilian company).

Whatever you decide good luck mate

generally counterbalance is a 3 day course, reach is a 2 day conversion after that. You need reach if you want to work in a warehouse. If you want to drive then do the HIAB, if you want to be a forklift driver then why do your LGV?

Rough terrain and teleporter are only really useful if your going into the building or farming trade.

i was more leaning towards the hiab as i have seen quite a few jobs on the jcp website in my area for class 2 hiab drivers.
is it vitally important that i go for a rittb or itssar accredited ticket?
and my other question was if i learnt on say a brick grab would i still be able to use my ticket on say a muck grab?

to answer cynic-al
ive already done my hgv. i only wondered about the flt because im not getting much driving at the mo

thanks for your responses

I went for hiab and it helped me get the job I have now, expect to pay up £250.Try and get on an Allmi or one of the other approve course’s,my employer had me re certified by allmi even though I’d just done my course with Zenith.
The course will probably be just basic crane use,no grab bucket etc, this is normally done as familiarization afterwards ( as far as I am aware ) any thing I’ve had to learn additionally to do with the crane or lifting gear has been done as and when required by the company.
Go for the hiab mate,as Giblsa said more opportunity also more variety of work.
Simon :sunglasses:

cheers. you have made my mind up for me. hiab is the only sensible option
