I allways thought recovery operatives were supposed to recover without causing more damage, didnt do a very good job there, they could have lifted the van off the Porsche with one of these clamper type lorries ,not that I am bothered about the Porsche,i hate the cars

You are right that you are not supposed to cause further damage. There are a few different ways that could have been done with the kit they had. There are also a few ways it could have been done with more specialist kit.

The trouble is that you’ve got plod on your back to get the road open, your boss in your ear wanting to know when you’ll be clear ready for the next job. On top of that all the motorists that are held up are blaming you and questioning your parentage.

The crew made a choice and got the job done.

The crew made a choice

And made the wrong one!
Should have taken the handbrake off on the van.

Ha-ha

Mate out past SW Mancs in Appleton is restoring this porsche - said ins co took hire co whom leased it to the cleaners and is mainly a cosmetic job to clean up and re-panel. Killing to be made.

Apparently the police thought the van couldn’t be driven away until the recovery driver pointed out no-one had taken the handbrake off - it was hit with Handbrake on. Handbrake released, driven away!

Any of you lorry guys down Appleton Thorn on a spare 45 go out for a wander down the local lanes, out away check out the classic cars above (and to be under) ground around Fir Tree Barn (supplier of cars to the Life on Mars police seriei on TV) and cars stored to be put in the 45 car “supercar” garage under the old Stretton runways.

To be honest, the car is a write off, the airbags have gone off. I certainly wouldn’t want to get behind the wheel off it. It’s ■■■■■■.

The van, it’s a 3.5 ton mgw sprinter. Curb is over 2 ton, it’s a fridge van, so 2.5 ton maybe, a quick search on the Internet shows wheel lift recovery cranes will lift around 1.9tons.

That was probably also a write off as well, wouldn’t surprise me if it damaged the rear chassis and floor

As above - I’d say too heavy for HIAB - although I’m no expert…

Who gives a toss, they’re both german built ■■■■■ ■■

fancy doing that next to a police car

Surely it just depends on having a big enough recovery truck with a big enough crane…
Something like this?

Also, you’re not having to lift the full van, only the rear of it and manoeuvre it off the Porsche…

I would have thought that the Porsche was totalled anyway so a few more scratches won’t add to the insurance bill!
