Flickr Photo Collections

This is a heads up to those who have a flickr photo collection.
For some time now Yahoo the parent company has been losing ground to other social media sites and since 2008 when a deal with Microsoft fell through, since then other suitors have shown an interest, but only in what would fit with what they already have, Google for instance could accommodate Yahoo Mail and Flickr merging into GMail and Google Photos, DMGT (Daily Mail) it is suggested are keen on Yahoo News.
It is Yahoo thats up for sale and who ever buys will no doubt sell off the bits they don’t want, it is reckoned that Flickr and the blog site Tumblr could get by on there own, there is no panic anytime soon BUT the point I’m trying to make is unless you already have your photos backed up and stored on a separate HD or flash drive you will find it difficult to retrieve them from Flickr.
There are ways and means of getting them off Flickr, slowest, one at a time or using Camera Roll to a Zip File (Google Photos), tho all date and detail is lost, also an “unofficial” bit of software(not approved by flickr) which I successfully used with Windows 7 but at the moment trying to get it to work with Windows 10, of course it would very much depend on what OS(operating system) you have.
Cheers

Edit  Just an afterthought and important… retrieving photos from Flickr by whatever means does not physically remove them only copies, so no interference with uploading to flickr just as you’ve always done.

With annual subs now increased to £55 I decided not to renew my Flickr membership this time round and find today when I go to upload photos that I am blocked. Max photo upload for non paying is a 1000 photos and being past that by 12000+ and I read in Flickr forums that anything over the 1000 will subsequently be deleted by Flickr. Flickr does not make it easy to get your photos back so I used getbulkr.com to fetch them for me and a fine job it did with all individual detail retained. The originals remain on Flickr for the time being.

We’re writing to inform you that effective today, the price of Flickr Pro subscriptions has increased to:

1 month: $6.99, plus tax
3 month: $18.99, plus tax
1 year: $59.99, plus tax
2 year: $117.99, plus tax

On November 1, 2018, Flickr announced new restrictions for its users.

On January 8, 2019, non-paying users are only able to upload up to 1000 files free of charge.
On March 12, 2019, deletion of the oldest files, determined by the upload date, has begun until the limit of 1000 files is met. The size of the individual files is not relevant. Alternatively, users can upgrade to Pro subscription for US$50 per year. This will go the same way as Photobucket went a few years back and people will loose their photos. I have copied all mine onto an external drive to save them from deletion.
