There is some companies out there which are paying their drivers based on fleetboard scoring. The higher score you have the highest pay rate you get. There are some tricks that you can use to cheat on the fleetboard readings like harsh braking or over revs so you can keep your scores to the highest % possible. Harsh braking and over revs are more likely to drop your score as we sometimes have to make emergency stopping. In my oppinion it’s just another way for TM and transport office to keep control over the drivers and nothing more.

I was told I could download the fleetboard drivers app on my phone which will show my driving/break time from the tacho and my fleetboard score amongst other info.
How do you connect the phone to be unit ?

The phone isn’t connected to the truck as such. You download the app (think its only available on android just now), create an account then register your digi card. A day or 2 later, the app should start working. Your truck sends the data to the fleetboard website and the app will then get it information from the fleetboard website through your mobile Internet. It doesn’t communicate directly with your truck.
The time management section on the app is very good. Gives you all your driving times etc. All the times come from your tacho via fleetboard and is very accurate.
Can anyone do it or do you need behind the scenes access to the Fleetboard and Digi unit ?

No. You can do it yourself. But it will only work if your gaffer has had the fleetboard system activated in your truck.
Just looked mate, Fleetboard Driver app is Android only atm. Shame, as it looks quite good.

Eco roll is a false economy imo, it rolls then drops speed knocks off a few mph but you then use gas to get it back up to maximum set cruise control speed.
That’s not how Eco Roll works. Not in a Merc anyway.
In the new MP4 with Predictive Powertrain Control the system will (at default settings) knock the cruise off approaching the crest of a hill and allow the vehicle to slow down by 3km/h. It will then pick that speed back up when it goes down the other side of the hill until it reaches 4km/h over the set cruise speed. It will then activate the engine brake and hold you at that speed. Once on the flat in many cases (depends on the road) it will jump back into Eco Roll and coast until you lose enough speed to get back down to the set cruise speed. It will then jump back into gear and carry on cruising.
All this saves fuel rather than using it as the engine is only ticking over.

The problem with this is that as you slow down traffic behind catches up and goes for the overtake, then you speed up going down. plus when you’re loaded, the thing goes into neutral downhill and picks up pace alarmingly quickly until it ■■■■■ itself and throws it into 10th to use the engine braking and redlines itself, which isn’t enough and you have to brake anyway. I’d rather be in control thank you, and keep it in gear all the time. I seem to remember when I was a driving instructor that if you coasted in neutral it would be deemed that you were not in full control of the vehicle- what’s the difference with this system?

The first thing I do in an Actros is turn the eco roll offTrouble with that, is that on the new Actros you need to go into the menu using the steering wheel buttons to turn eco roll off. Then every time you start the engine up after a stop, eco roll defaults back to on again.
It only requires 7 button pushes from the speedo screen to turn it off, I can do it without looking!
Damoq ,you are a crap driver ,get a DAF and it will help you look good

Yes it is, but I’m a bit more sophisticated. I drink Guinness.[emoji4]
Done a run down to Normanton and back today. Didn’t run in economy mode as it limits the cruise control to 52.8mph. It’s tight for time so you need to push on a bit. Because of running out of eco mode, the Fleetboard eco support score dropped to 18% for speed and only 52% for gearshift. The rest of the sectors were in the high 90% area. Despite these lower scores, I somehow managed to get a 9.9 score on my way down and 9.6 on my way back on the fleetboard.[emoji53]
Maybe if the guvner didn’t spend thousands on all this electronic crap and maintenance costs then they wouldn’t have to worry about the 2% or whatever increase in fuel costs by having a normal truck ?
