VALHALLA:

I do like that revolver, fair play to you.

i try to keep my truck clean and tidy yes i do polish it sometimes if i get chance. i get it washed at least once a week the main reason being is that i do a lot of dusty loads and go into recycling centers everyday and they are not the cleanest of places, i live in it 5 to 6 days a week and if i was at home i would keep that clean so why not my mobile home!!!
yes i have all the lights top bottom and all round the air pack now i didn’t fit them they where already there, now i work for a small family company (only 4 of us including the boss) and we are all out all week, and i think a clean and tidy truck gives the company good image, to our customers it shows we take pride in our appearance and that is reflected to our in our work.
so dont knock the all the guys who have blinged vehicles. :open_mouth:

This sort of thread gets under my skin. Nobody should have a go at anyone who has a tidy motor. It’s personal choice whether you look after your kit it matters not if it’s yours or the companies.
Please don’t feel that you have to justify yourselves for keeping a good standard blinged or not.
My trucks were always spotless, I paid good money to my drivers and in return clean tidy vehicles were expected,

I used to be one of those that scoffed at drivers who spent hours polishing thier trucks and buying things for it and I’m sure there are hauliers who take advantage of some of these guys.

But many small hauliers got into trucks because they like smart trucks and they employ like minded drivers. Nice to have a boss who thinks the same ways as you.
So although trucks with loads of lights and bling isn’t my style, I think it adds character to haulage and anyway wouldn’t it be more boring if we were all driving standard fleet motors?

What I don’t understand is why they spend their hard-earned money buying tat to stick onto another man’s property?

If they’re going to buy tat, why don’t they stick it onto their own property?

Anyway the tat brigade are Barry’s and should be ridiculed at every opportunity.

tramper me ode mate, that’s seriously nice bit of kit, sooooo much better looking than all our euro-kit…but i can’t imagine for one minute i could use it on brick/block/roof tiles etc building sites…and have time to sort it on a saturday ready for a monday tramp again…oh well,i’ll stick with me 56’ magnum

Thanks, I bought it with the romantic notion of using it everyday for general haulage. After about a month of dealing with a lack of forward vision due to the tiny windscreens and side glass, a lack of rearward vision due to awful mirrors, a turning circle to rival the Ark Royal and suspension copied from Ben Hur’s chariot I gave up on the idea and retired it to show truck status only.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of these who ridicules American trucks, far from it, I love 'em! This one’s a 1977 352, it has air operated windows, air seats, air conditioning, power steering and 400 horse power. Compared to what we were driving in '77 it’s the space shuttle!
This is how it looked when I bought it, what often amazes people is how small these trucks really are when compared to a euro truck. Check it out against one of my FH Globetrotters.

Tramper, that is a lovely truck and as you say for 1977 it is advanced, even down to the mirror on the right to show the blindside cars? Does it work?
What box has it got in it?

Do you mean the one halfway down the door which you get a peep at through the oval window? Well, yes It helps, but there’s not much angle on it so you dont get a lot of notice of blindside traffic. The problem with all the mirrors on yank trucks (of that era especially) is that the glass is flat, not convex like ours today, so the rear veiw is pretty awful.
As for the gearbox, it has an Eaton 13 speed, a 4 over 4 with splits on the top range only + crawler and reverse, this is coupled to a ■■■■■■■ 14 ltr, almost the same engine as in the ERF E14.
Oh yeah, I forgot that if you’ve got a passenger, they have to put their feet up on the dashboard so that you can see out of that door mirror!

my last job was driving scanias on a 5 on 3 off shift pattern the wages were good but the fact that i would spend my first day on shift sorting out defects and cleaning out the cab meant i son got fed up with it. now working for another company monday to friday (but work sat/sun at least twice a month), got my own motor and barrel all fitted with shiny wheels which the boss wants kept clean. ive no problem doing this as he has no problems paying me to do them we are not allowed light bars and such on the cab or any wavey handy type things on the windows. the only thing ive paid extra for is a microwave which i can take with me if i ever leave. the wages i pick up are roughly the same as my last job…im i happy?.. too bloody right i am…
