Flashing in transits?

I dont think its a matter of being thick, but its more a matter of being courteous, Although i dont flash every transit in, i do of course reciprocate, when they do it to me. What i have noticed however is when i flash in a big un some of them dont watch their mirrors as they pull in half a mile up the road still looking for my headlights, and im thinking " too bloody late mate, ive already done it once, i aint doing it again".
whenever i overtake, my eyes are almost constantly on that nearside mirror…is it me…

I only flash in sprinter vans and vauxhall corsas :unamused:

Ah, but do you flash in Vauxhall Corsa vans

I think the various answers posted on here about flashing in van drivers, goes to show how little courtesy some drivers show to other road users. There have been posts on these boards about truck drivers wanting respect, and yet there are many who seem to expect it just because they have a C+E licence. Well, i don’t remember the riving examiner handing anyone a pass certificate and a bucket load of respect, as far as I am aware, respect needs top be earned.
what damage does it do to flash in another driver, whether they are driving an artic or a mini van? If someone is passing me at 20 or 30 MPH faster than me, then there is little point in flashing them in, because by the time I’ve found the switch, they are half way to Glasgow! however, if another driver is travelling at just 1 or 2 MPH faster than me, it is just me being courtious by helping that driver, regardless of what they may be driving

flashing someone in is a personal choice like it or not pavorotti if u dont tough

Over many years I have developed my own flashing “system”,

The first large van that overtakes me on a Monday gets flashed in, if he ignores me then no more vans get it for that week.
I flash a car and caravanner in in March, if he ignores me then it’s none for the rest of the year.
I never flash coaches 'cos they never aknowledge.
I tend not to flash anything with tartan paint or Irish plates.
If a truck overtakes and does not aknowledge my flash I then don’t flash in the next two that pass.

Petty maybe, but it keeps me happy.

Oh, and never ever under any circumstances will I flash in an Elddis truck!!!

My 2 pence worth.
I worked for a bloke who not only ran a few artics, 7.5 tonners, but also did courier stuff, 2/3 pallets type stuff in Merc vans, the Transit type long wheelbase pre Sprinter models.
So I’ve been both sides of this coin. Though the vans and 7.5 tonners weren’t limited the guvnor liked the motors run at around the 55mph mark, so we were always in amongst the ‘proper truckers’, though it was always handy to have that bit in reserve for ‘just in case’. Whilst with him two of those vans got the 1/2 million miles on the clock, I know I was in one coming back from Peterhead when it rolled over to 500,000,! I think he got them into some Merc trade magazine, whether they’d have made that if they’d been thrashed to hell, i don’t think so. And he wasn’t stupid, he knew if you’d been belting it by the fuel consumption, so it wasn’t worth the row over.
I am trying hard to think now, remember how senile I am, but I don’t recall a single time when I have flashed a ‘proper trucker’ in that he didn’t flash back, and 90% at least flashed me in.
Never flashed coaches, campervans, or caravans, and 75% of other vans in, flashed most 7.5 tonners only if they looked the 'real deal, not builder/scaffolders or ■■■■■’s!
In fact I would say I’ve had more problems with artic drivers trying to rip my cab off whilst in the artic.
Life’s just too short Pavorati, our local Adult Education Centre is running an English Grammar class starting in September, might go along myself to the Creative Writing Class, see if I can’t improve my posts to short and to the point instead of the ramblings of a Crazy ex-trucker!

No Truckboy, one eye on the nearside mirror and one to the front! You can get special glasses :open_mouth: :unamused:
I don’t recall ever being to nice ESL motors, or Task Force motors, or the Irish, mainly because they were going so bloody fast I didn’t have time to! I always used to spit and curse at the Stobart products on sale in Southwaite Services.   Oh forgot, the fat pig from Manningtrees motors as well, never flashed them in, ever! Well not after having worked for him anyways?

I don’t know. Sure it’s not a slavic language.

I’m thinking of starting a new thread, using pavarotis posts entitled “thick truckers who can’t spell basic words” better than being thick for flashing headlights

Mate with spelling like that you really shouldn’t be insulting other people

With the poor spelling and the general lack of any sort of intellectual abilities that you’ve shown in this thread van flashers seem to be the least of your problems

As a van driver I would never expect to be flashed in. But it would be nice if when driving this some would flash

If you’re driving anything under 30ft and need a flash then you ought to spend some time reversing in to parking spaces to get an idea of where the back is.

With all due respect Ian, it’s not about length (ooh err missus) it’s about common courtesy.

I imagine that most folk reading this would agree that they don’t NEED to be flashed in, and it probably doesn’t give them any problems whatsoever if they aren’t flashed in. IMO it harks back to the fabled “golden age” of common courtesy when drivers would stop and offer assistance if they saw a fellow trucker broken down, where a trucker entering a carriageway would back off to allow the guy who’s just flashed him out to pass him easily, when truckers would flash in overtaking trucks without sneering that his limiter was disconnected.

I could go on, but these ■■■■ rose tinted spectacles are steaming up.

Lycanthrope:
No I don’t bother flashing vans as they are all doing 90mph, I don’t bother with 7.5tonners either as they are all doing that “press the accelerator over and over to get past the limiter for a millisecond” thing so they are a waste of space aswell,
and I don’t bother with Coaches as they are all [zb]s who think they own the road (especially National Express)because they are allowed to go 4mph faster than us ?

Ridiculous that Coaches and trucks have a speed limit of 60mph on the motorway but somehow People are more important than freight so we have to get stuck to 56mph, or even less, 52 in most of them.
Rigids I never seem to get a chance to flash in as they are already taking your mirror off before they are past, so

I only flash in anyone that is passing at a similar speed to I am doing, or is towing a trailer.

Fact finding time.

The LEGAL limit for a coach on a motorway is in fact… 70mph, not 60.

The limiters are usually set at 100kph, which is 10-11kph quicker than your average truck limiter - although, when I was on coaches, I got overtook off a lot of trucks when I was doing 60ish.

manowar:
If I am right, why on earth would you need to flash in a van under normal circumstances? Vans are only slightly longer than cars so it’s not hard to find the back end of them in the mirrors

Try diving in a van after driving a truck, you’ll find the mirrors are ■■■■■ and the van seems longer than it is, just give them a flash if they don’t seem to be coming back in.
