a guy i work with can put a trailer, blind side reverse into places where most of the superior drivers on here would poop their pants at, and guess what he has,nt even got a car license so just cos you have a class 1 don,t make you any better then anyone else, and when these drivers realise they are no better then anyone else the safer the roads may be…
That’s irrelevant, completely different animal fully loaded out on the public highway with every day hazards to deal with.
Anyone would be able to do that in a yard they spend everyday in. He should try doing it at a place he’s never been before with traffic waiting, pedestrians, street furniture and about 50 pairs of eyes watching him.
we are not in a normal everyday yard, stuff gets moved around every day so its not a case of getting used to it… and some of our drivers wont put trailers ect where he can get them and its there usual yard as well… personally i would trust him a ■■■■ site more then some of the idiots on here…
I just don’t get it either.
Couple of weeks ago, smashed artic on the hook, overall length about 85 foot, ■■■■■■■ down with rain, no-one flashes me in.
Yet everyone flashed me in later in the day when I’m driving a 6.5 ton Iveco van, all 20 foot of it
If I’m driving a van and an artic driver flashes me in, I don’t acknowledge them. It’s actually patronising to suggest I can’t tell where the back end is.

I guess they just think ‘you’re going for it’ ? Do you get to overtake much stuff in ■■■■■■■ down rain with such a long vehicle?
Theres no need for flashing in really. But the wagon drivers who feel the need to flash in transits, and theres many of them are reinforcing our reputation for being thick, so stop it you pratts.

Why? When I’m driving the 3.5 Tonner I appreciate the gesture and acknowledge accordingly, and my personal rule is anything Transit or up without a rear window will get a flash once it’s clear. I guess it could be a little different at night when I work, but I don’t see it as being thick. I see it as being helpful…
I think we’ve clearly established that some think it’s ‘patronizing’ to be flashed if your in a van, and other’s like myself clearly think it’s just a nice gesture, nothing more nothing less, i’m not telling you that your tail end is passed me…just being nice.

Yes
Cool, if you’re doing it so often i’m sure getting such a long vehicle past others in bad visibility is no problem to you. I personally never flash anyone unless there’s an ‘issue’, just so they know its ok, and maybe if i think they need to pull in bacause of a problem i spotted ahead, other than that i leave them to it we’re all grown ups. There’s a lot of new guys on the job who think because the old drivers did it on single carriageways they have to do it on motorways and duals where its not needed. Then the left and right flash of the indicators !!! Muppets !! If anyone ‘needs’ flashing in as a matter of course then they shouldn’t be driving, they don’t know what they’re doing other than operating indicator stalks.
now im driving wag and drag when im pulling both i get flashed in, if just the wag then more ofen than not not… and when with both artics will let you pull out more often

Give us that again Daz, i can’t be the only one thats confused?!!
I cannot believe this is still going on after a week. Let’s face it, some will some will not, they all have their own reasons for doing whatever they do. I cannot see what the problem is, as I’ve said before its not as if I’ve got anything else to do for the 600 odd kms driven per shift. Once I’ve adjusted my mirrors so I can see myself looking smug & superior, polished my mangina, sorted & stacked the mags, got the correct DVD in the laptop & set off its just a case of holding the steering wheel and looking out the big window, cannot think of anything else I should be doing. I have wondered if those who don’t flash drivers in say that to themselves as they are being overtaken, like some form of mantra, " I will not flash, I will not flash" Doh !
yes we should all be able to judge when we are past a vehicle but just this week I’ve seen 3 occasions when they were nowhere near past the vehicle before indicating, in one case the back of the trailer had not even reached the cab when the indicators went on.
Anything 7.5 tonne and over gets a flash, unless it’s traveling at a much higher speed, I drive at night on relatively quiet motorways so it’s less of an issue compared with roads in the daylight hours.
I never flash in coaches (rude never reply) or anyone who thinks that driving with there fog lamps on is acceptable, and I never ever ever flash in caravans those who do so should be ashamed, if I had the say it would £60 and 3 for those who did.

I usually flash rigids in, but don’t often get thanked!
correct I flash in most vehicles van and above and most are ignorant with no thanks.
I dont say thanks as i dont need flashing in. I dont flash in as i like my stopping distance clear. Constant flashing on motorways just annoys me, just no need for it.
