To busy watching telly, smoking spliffs and makin herbal tea to notice them pretend truckers go past :lol:
iām always flashin rigids
a guy i work with can put a trailer, blind side reverse into places where most of the superior drivers on here would poop their pants at, and guess what he has,nt even got a car license so just cos you have a class 1 don,t make you any better then anyone else, and when these drivers realise they are no better then anyone else the safer the roads may beā¦
I normally flash people in but more often than not I find Iām not given the chance as they pull in way too soon. I think a lot of drivers are scared to stay in the middle lane too long. I couldnāt care less how long Iām in the middle lane, I have as much right as any one

Contrary to popular belief it doesnāt use up ya lecky bill you know!!No but it does add to your diesel bill, the lecky you use comes out of the battery and then your engine has to put a tiny bit of extra enery into charging the battery for the tiny bit of lecky being used.
However i flash most vehicles in front of me as itās friendly to do it, whether they be artics, rigids, 7.5 tonners, lutons panel vans or anything pulling a trailer or caravan, lets face it the smaller they are the less effective their mirrors are.
If they donāt say thanks with their indicators or hazards ā¦well thats up to them.
(but I hope they die horribly
)
The blokes who donāt use the indicators are saving electrickery too, it is the ones who wind down the window to remonstrate are really wasting fuel and electric
Turn off your radio too, you know it makes sense

Knights of the road? whats happened to respect for fellow professionals whoās to say the guy in 7.5 tonner doānt hold a class1, I used drive long/wide loads with a trombone behind an AEC Mandator, WTF is one of them I hear you ask! as an O/D have been on ridgid 8ās for nearly 30 years, itās not about size of vehicle itās about size of wages, judging by some of the posts on TNUK the girls on Transit Connects at my local motor factors are on better wages than some artic drivers![]()
Agreeād, Iām driving a rigid because Iām getting a bloody excellent rate for it. Not going to lie, Iād rather be in an artic getting the experience I need but for the rate Iām getting youād be lucky if most Class 1 drivers are getting.
stagedriver:
RIGID DRIVERS ARE NOT REAL DRIVERS BECAUSE THEY CANNY PASS THEIR CLASS 1
I have a Class 1 actually, just that the going rate is far better for this particular job and Iām not about to pass it up.
A lorry is a lorry not a status symbol. You are all lorry drivers rigid-- artic whatever.Donāt buy the truck thing either, they are small van derived vehicles.
Iāve just driven from Easton to Falkirk, Iāve had all the time in the world so set the cruise at 80kph. Iāll quite happily flash anyone in, but for some strange reason it annoys me when I get no acknowledgement from those I flash in. One theory I have is that some people are that used to taking two or three miles to pass that when they pass one travelling significantly slower they arenāt looking in their mirrors when I flash them, so then miss it. I refuse to sit there flashing time after time on the off chance theyāre looking in their mirrors. I also reckon that merely indicating in does not constitute an acknowledgement.
In the end I start playing the " if he doesnāt acknowledge Iāll not flash the next two in". Childish I know, but it passes the time.
Of course it goes without saying that I never flash National Express coaches, Fred Sherwood or ECM car transporters in.
being limited to around 58mph I regularly pass folk and always receive flashes from rigids, Iāve actually noticed its other artic drives that have clearly been sat at 52mph for the last hundred miles that donāt flash me (not bothered). Maybe there peeved at a young lad towing a decker flying past them, who knows, only lastnight there was two Stobbie drivers going over Shap about 1/4 mile apart, first one didnāt flash and the second kept main beam on after I got past. If youāre that miserable fella, leave your job but donāt be a ā ā ā ā ā ā
Flash me = get a friendly left right on the indicator
Dont Flash me = nice to meet you too, miserable git

When Iām in the 3.5 Tonner itās flat out at about 55 so Iām always amongst the running artics unless I get behind a Norfolkline trailer (62mph woooo!), usually give them a couple of flashes and get a thank you, very few that donāt.
Still not as good as the plank in the white 'tros last night though, was clearly unhappy that I used the lanes on Penrith Roundabout correctly and so sat behind me on high beam until we got along the A66 to the turn off at Borderman Trucks. Next time try reading the road, ā ā ā ā ā ā ā¦

RIGID DRIVERS ARE NOT REAL DRIVERS BECAUSE THEY CANNY PASS THEIR CLASS 1
I passed it in 1992 and drive a rigid now you nob jockey
Not everyone is in a position to afford class 1ā¦
Anyway, I like to think Iām polite enough with fellow drivers, if someone passes me I will flash them in when they get a little distance ahead. Does kind of peeve me a bit when they donāt bother to acknowledge but hey-ho, maybe they didnāt see my lamps. I donāt make any distinction between rigid or artic, donāt see the point, they are all lorries.
Sam Millar:
During the day little drivers will flash you in, at night itās a little bit better buy Iāve certainly noticed that youāre less likely to get flashed in in a rigid but theyāll flash sprinters etc in?!
To be honest Iām struggling to understand why other lorry drivers would flash in Sprinter drivers but not a rigid HGV driver
Are you sure that youāre not expecting a flash too soon, I know everyone says they know where the back of their lorry is but if that was true it would mean that a significant proportion of drivers are deliberately trying to attach my grill to their rear end , I prefer to believe that most drivers only think they know where the back of their lorry is
Sam Millar:
I think itās just a bit of comradery tbh and itās nice to be nice, Iāll flash both in.
I agree with that, I flash anyone in if they give me time and if someone flashes me in before I think itās safe to pull in I generally give them a flash or two of the right hand indicator or a flash of the left hand indicator if thereās another vehicle close behind just to let them know Iāve seen their flash, then I pull in when I think thereās enough space between us.
Really donāt get this general fixation with being āflashed inā.
Any driver, regardless of length of vehicle should have enough of a perception of distance to be able safely pass and return to the inside lane without guidance from the overtook driver.
Relying on others to find out if youāve JUST passed is lazy and idle.
Use your nous.
Being a drawbar driver I experience driving short and long vehicles on a daily basis and tend to ignore (however well intended) premature flashes as a matter of course.
I indicate back in when Iām good and ready and like to leave at least an artic length behind me. Much to the van drivers chagrin on Tuesday goin up the M61 northbound.
The daft frustrated sod undertook me and couldāve potentially caused much mayhem.
It all in a days workā¦

Thatās irrelevant, completely different animal fully loaded out on the public highway with every day hazards to deal with.
Anyone would be able to do that in a yard they spend everyday in. He should try doing it at a place heās never been before with traffic waiting, pedestrians, street furniture and about 50 pairs of eyes watching him.
Iāll flash anything in thatās limited. I canāt understand why drivers flash in vans!!! They are vans, they are not limited to around our speed and the ones that are usually have a sign. They shouldnāt even need flashing in because they shouldnāt be under our toes going so slow.
Been on rigids last 5 year now class 1 since 1990 although I miss the bendy Iām on better money now than a lot of class 1 jobs even ADR jobs in fact Iām on very good money no one leaves our place they just retire . 4 on 4 off is also another reason why Iām on the rigid equates to only working 6 months of the year. working 5 days a week and only 2 off dosnt suit me Iāve just booked 8 days holiday which gives me 20 days off . I couldnāt give a toss weather Iām flashed in or not itās just the way off the trucking world now no camaraderie any man for himself. Please donāt ā ā ā ā on me if I were on fire I would sooner burn than admit to driving a truck ā¦the postman thinks I work from home
Surely your all missing the point? We are all professional drivers doing the same job, be it in a 7.5t or a artic so why should there be this hierarchy between drivers. I just donāt get it, if a driver flashes you in a flick of the indicator is all thatās needed,if he doesnāt then hey ho get over it.
Life is too short to worry about whether another driver flashes you in or not.
