…and the irony is that technically it’s not a Zero Emission Zone - anyone can drive their petrol or diesel vehicle there as long as they pay for the privilege.
Just a moneymaker, really.

Absolutely, a very good point.

The green issues are just being used to make money. They’ve all got their hooves in the trough on this one.

Yep it’s going to be Open Season for owt with a tailpipe emission in the coming years with cash strapped local authorities up & down the country looking to fill their coffers.

Make your cities and towns effectively no go areas, doesn’t bother one bit, won’t go there.
As is already happening the shops will gradually go broke and close, eventually they’ll be converted to housing and the high streets will disappear, then only residents will have any need to venture within.
Oxford will still attract visitors for its historical buildings, park and ride is ideal for day trippers, but what of commercial interests.

Little attention is paid to larger longer term pictures when these decisions are made, when whatever attracts visitors is gone or changed beyond recognition they won’t come back, when people are made to feel unwelcome or taken unfair advantage of they again don’t go back.
All that is fine if that’s what people who live in cities and eventually towns wish for, presumably they elected those who would carry out their wishes.

The flaw in the plan is they want the revenues but don’t want to provide the income.
While if it’s all about stopping emissions and it works then they obviously won’t be getting the cash.
