First wk in class 2 job

Hi all, as some of you will be aware I passed my class2 a few wks back & started my new job last wk.

Mon & tues not much to report as the lease truck was delayed & not coming till Wednesday am. So it was just a couple of runs in their 7.5t on mon & tues.

So Wednesday arrives & so did my work horse!! Handed the keys & paperwork for first local job as they wanted me to have plenty of time to get familiar with truck & make sure everything works as it should.

2009 09 DAF CF75 don’t now what kind of sleeper cab you call that !! Lol, rear lift axle through me as I thought they where single wheels, but this is twin!! So is that 8x2■■

So after checking everything & figuring out how the curtains worked I set about the day on my own!!
Being based in Stockton the run was very local, quick run upto Washington & loaded for delivery into Tesco at Teesport. All went smoothly & was introduced to the joys of an RDC waiting room for 2hrs, can’t complain though, happy to be paid while sat watching tv & drinking coffee, beats the 7.5t multi drop I used to do !!

Thursday comes & it’s more of a usual day I can expect in general haulage. Collect load from North Shields & then a good long drive down to Worcester, all goes well & get tipped straightaway. From there it’s a quick trip upto Willenhall for a back load upto Gateshead the following morning. Luckily the place in Willenhall let me park up in their yard for the night, first night out I’ve done, but to be honest I was so tired by then I slept like a baby.

Up at 5am Friday & had a good trip upto Gateshead & was back in Stockton & all finished mid afternoon.

Not the most exciting blog ever but all I can say is that despite clocking up about 1200km I’ve loved every minute & looking forward to next wk, which I know is a collection in Washington & deliver down to Maidstone, Kent.

One odd thing I’ve noticed, I got flashed back in more often when I was in a 7.5t than I do in this 26t !!

Time for me to hit the shops & get a travel kettle ASAP !! Lol

Cheers

Happy days your on the road, are you working for a firm or agency?

Local family run firm. Been on agency before & wouldn’t do it again!!

6x2. Or a six legger.

Never say wouldn’t  glad you enjoyed it

Nice one. Well done. A good start. Being a family firm, you will probably be looked after and respected better than being a number on a payslip at one of the multinationals.

As said, its a 6x2.

If it had another axle it’d be 8 legger.

Well done on the good start. Another one in the eye for those cynics who believe new drivers never get a start!

That’s a 6x4 from what I can see mate.

Good luck

That’s a 6x4

Fraid not. The first number refers to the number of visible wheels. From the picture - 6. The second number is the number of wheels that are driven. In this case, that’s 2. So it’s a 6x2.

Heavy recovery trucks and the like are often 6x4. Also military. There’s a list of vehicles but the majority of “normal” trucks will be either 4x2, 6x2, and eight leggers will often be 8x4.

Military heavy trucks go up to 8x8.

This is far from exhaustive but hope it helps.

I know what the numbers mean Peter, I never noticed it was lifted at first on my iPad but from what I can see now that’s a double on the back that’s lifted… i take it lifted doubles mean they don’t drive?

Thanks for all the kind comments guys, seems an age since I started but still learning & seeing new things every day !! Finding decent places to stop over night would appear to be a mine field, stopped in some crap & also some pretty good places, but then with 3 to 4 nights out a wk I’m sure I’ll soon get to know ‘the good, the bad & the ugly’!! Lol
