Just completed my first week on general haulage after making the transition from foodservice multidrop and i’m pleased to say i’m more than happy i made the move.
This week i’ve been up and down the country, seen places i never even knew existed and all the while been getting paid for it.I’ve had a variety of different loads on the back ranging from the finest Belgian lager to pallets of waste cardboard.Experienced my first night out in a truck and my first breakdown.
I know alot of people on here are unhappy driving for a living but i’d just like to say that after years of working in factories and warehouses i could not be happier with the way things have worked out [emoji2]
Good for you. Glad it all worked out.

Well completed week 2 and and pleased to say still happy and enjoying it.
This week was harder going but was expecting that to be fair.Put alot of hours in and spent two consecutive nights away.Spent one of them nights outside a customers premises on an industrial estate, ready for an early morning pick up and a long drive back to the North East.Slept much better than i have in my 2 previous nights out in MSA’S.
One thing that did ■■■■ me off this week was when i arrived at a factory to pick up a load.I was cutting it close and got there just before closing time.My planner had phoned ahead to let the customer know.Pulled into the yard and was met by a forkie who informed me that he would load me then i would have to pull out the yard to strap the load up as they were closing up and needed to lock the gates up.Needless to say strapping up a load, parked by the side of a busy road with my hazards going is not something i would recommend.
I would have told the forkie to do one. He could’ve hardly pushed your wagon out.
You could have made up some h&s type bs that you’re not allowed to move of without strapping down and if the load falls off they’ll have to explain why to their boss etc
Yeah your probably right i should of said something. It’d been a long day and i just wanted to get loaded, drive back to the yard and get home.
