Been doing multidrop class 2 for two months now and first time going to a big depot today. Got there and parked up before heading over to the office to book in. Sorted that told to reverse in to bay… Done that and SAT there for ten minutes before asking a driver what the crack is i didnt realise you unload yourself!!! Quite funny I thought. Fairplay to one if drivers showed me how to operate the ramp, the electronic pump truck( How mich easier is that!) and booking out.So for all new drivers basically ask and someone WILL help you! Waiting for Evil8Beezle to come along any minute…
Also got home and i have a speeding offence when i worked for agency back in September!! Good day really.
ALDI by any chance or is there someone else who’s gotten the self-tip idea? The electric pallet trucks are a good idea, until they turn on you and try to crush you between the baked beans and cans of Guinness that you’re transporting…that hurts. Daft thing is, if it’s there it generally doesn’t make the process any quicker, just saves staff.
Forgot to add - if you get any Euro Pallets (marked Euro on the pallet base) be very careful when using those trucks as you can destroy the pallet very easily. They’re smaller than the usual ones and often ALDI will provide a strange wooden looking thing which you put on the pallet truck and prevents this damage. Luckily a driver showed me that when ALDI staff forgot to (damaged 2 pallets and managed to hide them).
What you expect me to say mate?
Doesn’t sound like you didn’t do anything wrong, although a better Newbie would have confessed/introduced their lack of experience by playing a version of the Newbie Card saying something like: “What’s the crack here, it’s my first visit…”
But no one’s perfect and no one died, so who’s to say a God like me would have done anything different!
As for speeding…
Who you rushing for on agency?
Your boss so they can pay you less?
Now at your expense…
School boy error!

Lidls mate it was for. Those euro pallets yeah ive had one or two problems with them myself when first started, when too far under and as you say the wheels were wedged under the end resulting in pallet breaking but also the pallet truck jammed underneath took me while to get it out!

Yeah it all worked out well and now I know for next time! The speeding it was actually a van(no not a class2
) Caught doing 56 in a 50mph temporary speed zone . All I can say is they must have made some money that night!
Says on letter that they have photographic or video evidence?? Can i ask to see this first as the alleged offence was 30th September so cant remember exactlyif I drove for agency that Friday. Phone line closed for weekend so cant ring.
The letter usually comes through with photo of the offending vehicle mate. You can ask for this if it didn’t.
I’ve just started getting driving work through agencies and what I have is a notebook and in it I put: Date, Company (you’re driving for that day), Vehicle reg, Start and Finish time. some companies run an all night operation at times so multiple drivers can drive the same wagon on the same day so I thought I would cover my own ■■■■ and not take another drivers fine if they drove the same wagon an hour after me.

If you’re keeping a notebook record like this, also add the destination(s) or general area of the run.

+1 ^^^
I’ve got records going back several years of units driven, trailer numbers, destinations and hours.
Its got the day and time of offence on the letter but like I said i was working a fulltime non driving job at the time and just doing the odd weekend work every other weekend for agency. I guess its taken till now because the fine went direct to the company and they have passed my details on. I messaged agency and they said im afraid you were deiving that day, when I asked them to confirm the date they didnt reply!

I thought they only had 28 days to notify you and after that they could not legally prosecute you?

I thought it was 14 days… BUT, that time limit only extends as far as the registered keeper being notified and not the driver, once the registered keeper gets the NIP, the time constraint doesn’t apply as far as I know.

It is 14 days - but that limit only applies to them sending the notice to the (last known) registered keeper of the vehicle. Subsequent “links in the chain” are not subject to this limit.
I’ve not needed to do this as I’m a GOOD driver!
But surely the easiest thing to do is when you next put your card in a Tacho, is to take a printout of that day?
I’ve not checked, but wouldn’t be surprised if you can go that far back, or further…
Step in Tachograph!
