First shifts guidance if you can please

Morning folks.
I will be starting with my new job in a couple of weeks after passing C+E last month. I have decided to do a couple of agency shifts first though and was after any advice that you lot could offer.
I will be doing two shifts next week for HERON in Melton and was wondering what vehicles they used, are they autos, are the staff at drop offs helpful, etc, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Your not going to work full time for them are you?

No mate. I’m just doing two shifts next week for an agency. I start work the following week for a local company delivering granite products nationally.

From what I’ve seen as I run from Immingham, Heron foods (it is Heron foods right?) run a mix of Volvo’s so I’m gussing they will be auto. The trailers look beaten up though, all with tail-lifts.

My friend worked there, drived a different wagon everyday (mercs, odd volvo) not very good to work for I’ll say that… Who you starting your full time job with??

Glad to hear that unless you get given an easy run don’t think you’ll want to go back for the 2nd shift.

Totally agree mac12, the blue eyed boys get a steady 6-7 hour run and you get a run to do a 13-15 hour day…

No wonder they can’t keep their staff

I’ve heard that they aren’t too good to work for but basically it’s a very small stepping stone for me to get a bit of experience. I’ve been driving ambulances for the last 24 years so now I’m looking forward to driving within the speed limits. I’m starting work for a company in Hull called ‘Odlings.’ They manufacture headstones and other granite memorial stuff such as statues. The pay is not fantastic but according to another driver there, you are able to make your wage up to a reasonable standard. Luckily, I’m in a good position minus my mortgage, kids all grown up, a pension in place in a couple of years, etc. Quite looking forward to the change from saving lives to supplying them with their departure stones. :sunglasses:

I run from Melton 3/4 times a day mate

Yesterdays shift was a bit of a ■■■■ up. I arrived at 0345 hrs only to find out they had no knowledge of me for the day. I tried the agency mobile which went straight to answerphone. Not one for stressing, I returned home, had a cuppa then nodded off in my chair. A couple of hours later I had a phone call from the agency apologising for the ■■■■ up. They asked me if I would be willing to return and do a shift as a double manned crew for the rest of the day. I duly obliged and ended up working with a great fella who was very helpful. He gave me loads of tips, advice and encouragement. We ended up in the Newcastle area doing four drops. I got used to the ‘slap-over’ box quite quickly and all in all, had a good day. Today I will be flying solo for the first time. Got the east coast run with four drops. Looking forward to it as I know the coast road quite well after running it a lot of times in my previous job.
The truck was a bit of a shed yesterday but, today, I am hoping I get something a little less ‘lived in.’
