First night out

First night out next week down to Cornwall. What’s everybody’s preference, sleeping ag or quilt?

What other essentials do I need?

Only be doing 1 or 2 nights a week.

Cheers.

Do you use a sleeping bag at home??

The ability to use the forum search function would help.

There are too many factors you haven’t told use about for us to give you an accurate answer.

Are you the only person using this truck?
Will you have to remove your gear at the end of each N/O shift so the day man can drive it?
Will you be eating out or self catering?
Do you want to watch tv, ■■■■, or surf the Internet when off duty on a N/O?

Something to eat.

Something to it out of.

Something to eat it with.

Sleeping bag v quilt. Makes no difference in this weather as you’ll be sleeping on top of it anyway.

If your can hopping then go for sleeping bag to make it easier each time you move. If your in a unit on a longer term basis then make up your bed as you would at home do or feels a bit more homely.

Just ask yourself, what would I take camping, because that’s basically what having nights out is, and if your parked somewhere nice, go and explore.

I have a sleeping bag turned inside out as the bottom sheet. And a duvet a 90% down duvet on top. Feather pillows as well. Can’t be doing with synthetic crap. It’s lovely and comfy… even in a sh/tty Scania!

If you’re cab hopping, invest in a blow up pillow. Major space saver

And before anyone else chimes in, u can get blow up dolls

Despite it being the only night out I did this week, I had everything I could want.
Duvet, pillows and fitted sheet.
12v coolbox
kettle, tea, coffee, milk, odd items of “emergency food & more
2 gals of water
Knife, fork, spoons, cup
Tupperware tub of cornflakes for breakfast
Wash kit (towel, flip flops, toothbrush, shave kit etc)
Any meds I reqd.
A change of clothes (inc underwear, socks, T shirt, leisure shorts)

I was camped out at Glasgow truckstop last night. So it had reasonable facilities inc showers. However I should have checked if Rangers where playing at home before I headed there (the truckstop is next door). As they use the spare space to park the fans cars, much to the dismay of one truck driver who came in late and found out there was nowhere to park, & after the match cars where rev’ing up before leaving.

Don’t laugh but… crocs.

Or other plastic flip flop things. Looking at the stares coming out of the shower you’re going in to you’ll see why lol

As for bed… I have an inside out sleeping bag on the mattress and another I use as a quilt.

Food storage I’m lucky as I have built in fridge/freezer but I’ve also got a gas stove and camping kettle/pots for cooking or making a brew.

Stuff to entertain myself, books/movies etc.

Empty bottle!

To have a ■■■■ in at night or when stuck in traffic, saves parking spots stinking of ■■■■, especially in this hot weather.

They seem to be a common sight with drivers heading to the shower

I have a medical urine bottle, available on the web for a couple of ponds

Though it takes a little practice to use, especially in the dark

My lad had an expandable bottle when he was potty training for when ‘out and about’ and needing a wee. Think it had a frogs head for a lid. It did the job.

Also available are a ‘shepee’ for some of the fannies on here lol

Sod sleeping bags I try and make my cab as home like as possible, so basically I carry all home comforts, everything basically…apart from a woman but I’ve got one of those at home for when I come back.
Btw if you’re just starting out make the best of your nights out, don’t be parking in some crap hole lay by or rip off services. :bulb:
Look for an ind est or retail park on the edge of towns near facilities. :bulb:
It makes the job easier and much more enjoyable…trust me.

Exactly this, if you park up a crap layby and have traffic and get rocked to sleep you won’t be a fan from day 1, make the most of it… I like getting myself in a pub for tea have a few hours out the office… sleeping bag vs duvet… I personally have a double duvet on top of a fitted sheet, sleep on top when the weather is nice, winter get nice and snug inbetween!

And don’t go trying to be a hero if the diesel fairys appear

Old, cleaned out milk bottle for a ■■■■ bottle. And a funnel, in the morning just empty it into your adblue!
