First look at the new MERCEDES ACTROS tractor unit

its about time they had a decent cab , lets hope the interior is just as good

Looks mean looking, just hope they dont make it lean to one side.

Mean looking grill…Nice!!

Rikki, is this an official release or a leak? Not that I would care too much, but I thought it’s due out on the 1st July

Thanks for sharing anyway

Mmmm you naughty boy Rikki :stuck_out_tongue:

Looks nice though, I’ve been watching some of the photos in disguise and discussions about them on the tinternet for a while.
They’ve ditched the low profile V6/8 motors and gone to straight sixs, so they’ve had to give it a taller cab to retain the flat floor.
Mines a red one please :grimacing:

I’ve heard the one about Renault painting there trucks dark green because it’s illegal to photograph military vehicles in France.
And the new euro 6 actros will have inline 6s rather than the current v6 and v8 engines

I thought the Actross went Straight 6 a year or so back? Sure the 11 plates at Maritime were straight 6’s.

I dont know if its just a fluke but if you look at the reg it would suggest that its got a 510 hp block under it, following on from a few comments that they have got rid of the v6 and v8 would this mean that they are now producing 510 from a straight 6 rather than from a v8?

The axor is straight 6 but the actros has always been v engined until now

13 and 15 litre straight sixs, up to 560 hp from the 15L. Theres rumoured to be a 17litre so Merc can get into the 700+ hp bracket.

The new design has provoked some comments, two or three mentions of it looking mean and Rikki commented that it looked big, wasn’t the modern design of all trucks meant to portray a more friendly face like the car industry did?

Looks like Rikki`s photo on the top page is taken on the road Almeria to Motril, any other guesses?

Rikki-UK:
I think my point is that the manufacturers do realise that a test track/testbed enviroment will not highlight any flaws so they do test in “real” environments.

Iveco ran loads of prototypes of the Strallis in disguise back in the early 2000’s, I used to see them running up and down the A1 regular, and they still ended up with a crock of [zb] :grimacing:

Rikki-UK:
I have for many years expounded to the manufacturers the fact that T/Net could supply an impartial panel of drivers to critic thier new proposed working environments,

Noooo, I would’nt want some of the opinions I see on here designing trucks thank you :grimacing:

I know the older Actros was V6, I drive an 05 reg 1 and that’s a V6, but I’m sure the 11 plates Maritime have came in flat 6…

There’s a guy on here who works there who could probably have a gander.

also remember seeing the blue and yellow de-badged Volvo FH’s running around the M25 years ago before launch. Anyway, back to topic…I WANT ONE!!!. Think the interior of this could well surpass anything out at the min as far as luxury goes, or will all the buttons/dials be as angular as the cab and not too ‘easy on the eye’? Might leave the rest playing catchup! Cab styling seems a bit to much of a radical change to pull of in one hit (imo) but i dare say, it will grow on me when they start appearing on the roads in o/d or some big fleet guise and i know the 1st one on UK roads will look good  Right…off to get some more tissue

Nice one RB :sunglasses:

That looks like a good use of the space ‘downstairs’…bunk folded right out of the way…reckon you could get a sunlonger in the passenger footwell!! Wonder if the seat slides forward enough/reclines back to enable a good stretch out when taking a 45min nap? Some more pictures of cab trim would be good. Cats blanket? I think so but pictures can be misleading, would like to have look a inside one and would (possibly) donate a kidney to have one for a 6 month stint so MBUK, if your reading this!!!

Where’s the gears gone?
