So I signed up to an agency last week just to get some experience driving whilst still employed with my current employer.
They have got me my first job with Class 2.
Working for co-op at castlewood. I have no idea what to expect, will they give me an induction on what they expect or just say there’s your truck of ya pop so to speak.
If anyone has any experience working for co-op please enlighten me I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a tough start to my career and am expecting a lot of handball.
Looking forward to it but bricking it at the same time!
Is this the big depot near Mansfield that replaced the Alfreton one?
hi
the agency lads at out place get given the keys and there running sheets and sent on there way. so id try getting in a bit early find out where your going and ask the other drivers what the crack is
My very first job also organised via an agency was with the Co-op at Lincoln, I did an approx 2 hour assessment on the Friday and worked the day after on the Saturday. The assessment consisted of loading up the truck, then driving and delivering to a couple of local stores under the supervision of one of the regular drivers. The job itself involved delivering goods in cages to stores, I had one morning run to a store about 25 miles away and one afternoon run to two stores one local the other about 20 miles away.
The cages are off loaded via the tail lift, it’s not what I would call hard work but I wouldn’t say it is easy either, pushing and pulling the cages does take some effort but you get a nice rest when driving.
I was given a map showing the location of the first store along with a diagram showing the best approach to the delivery bay which was super helpful however they did not give me a map for the afternoon run, I thought this was because it was super easy to find - wrong! The first store I located no problem but the last one was tucked out of sight down a road marked up as a dead end and I ended up going round and round in circles for an hour or so before I eventually found it… … that was the one that I really could of done with a map for!
I have delivered to the Co-op depot at Castlewood Business Park, it is very well set out and looks very organised so I don’t think you will have too much of a problem - just take your time, enjoy it, don’t stress out and don’t forget to take a trust worthy Sat Nav to get you to where you need to be.
Thanks Micky, put me at ease s little [emoji106]
Store delivery is an aquired taste, always done shops class 1+2,take your time don’t rush about, cages are a pain in the ■■■ sometimes if they are loaded top heavy, pop beer etc specially if you have to wheel them across roads and up kerbs.
We have maps at pound land for shops but if your unsure of where to go when your close pull over and ring the shop and ask, nothing worse driving round in circles getting yourself worked up trying to guess, been there done that I ring the shop now some will tell you to stay where you are and send staff to sit in the cab and direct you in.
Anything else you need ask
Jeff.
