First impressions

So I’m 99.9% certain I’m going to be moving to Tesco (frozen) in the near future. Official offer on table through the post this morning while other firms I’ve applied with go through their process etc.

I went to interview/assessment with Tesco and really wasn’t expecting a lot and was almost not going to go, but I gave my head a wobble said to myself to “give it a go” and tbh I was surprised. I passed all their bits and bobs and was offered the shifts I wanted on the days I wanted them on the spot after a very warm and welcoming discussion with a few people in the office. In short, as per the thread title, the first impression they made was very good and completely surprising.

So yeah, very likely going to be a supermarket plobber :smiling_imp:

But while I’m losing 6mph I’m gaining sick pay, higher basic pay, overtime rates and stepping away from the endurance mission of general haulage for my current outfit whom I wish nothing but misery to.

No point to this thread other than to say onwards and upwards! Hopefully. That and any tips for freezers? Never done them…

Nice one mate.
If ever an RDC opened up in my area I’d be in there like a shot.
Good and easy money with excellent t.s and c.s,.what’s not to like.
Make a nice change from tramping I reckon and the nearest thing you can get in this game to a ‘proper job’.
I’ve been everywhere I want to go,.and driven all the fancy trucks I want to, would not bother me in the least a pobbing in a bog standard motor for the money they are on.

Hope it all works out for you, good luck with it.

Cheers man.

Like you I’ve been lucky to take trucks and coaches all over the continent and seen it all, haha all the being and so on, but the T&Cs on offer from here are far superior to what I’ve had anywhere else. Things like sick pay :open_mouth: and overtime rates :open_mouth:

Added bonus is once again it’s almost on my doorstep but then I only ever work local and have never really needed to travel far for work given where I live.

congrats…
having done a shift in a rigid to some stores all i can say is make sure you follow the rules to the letter. Some stores dont bother but others do and if you have the misfortune of running into one that does they can be alittle bit of a pain.

second tip is make sure you get all the risk assments befor you leave the yard as they seem to have the full address on if the microlise isnt working your buggered with out them (yes there is google maps but they dont always come up with the right store/place/postcode.

third if your anything like me and cant find how to turn on the lights in the back take something like a headtorch so your hands are free and you dont keep turning the bloody phone off and walk into one of the sliding doors.

lastly be prepaired to do 10 rounds with an octapuss to get the straps on and off those stupid lanyard things

thats all i have found so far

Cheers mate. You doing it via agency or on the books?

I’m led to believe that my shift pattern rules me out of doing a lot of stores and I’ll be mainly trunking depot to depot with odd stores now and then, but only bigger stores. Will see how accurate that is in time but an ex colleague (soon to be current colleague again haha) corroborates what I got told.

Good luck with the new job.
My thoughts about sick pay.Im leavinv a job with sick pay to containers without sick pay.I did look up some insurance polocies to cover you if you cant work.I think our sick pay iz worth about £30 to £40 a month.I hear some drivers say there is no eay way they would leave the job because of the sick pay.Its an overstated benefit,I think

I’m not sure. I get nothing at the moment besides SSP so it’s nice to know there’s a safety net. I’ve not had a day off sick for years mind, even in other jobs where I had sick pay, but I’m older now so the powers of being a hero and dragging myself around are getting weaker

Yes,I think it is worth looking at some of these insurance policies that pay you out if you have an accident or illness.Even if you have a lot of savings,if something happens ,if they give you a lumo sum ,and you buy a new car or something,it can take your mind off it.I never had any insurance, then got cancer twice, but the sick pay covered me off work, but if I had insurance, the money would have took my mind off worrying about the disease for a short while at least. So,even though they cured the cancer,no insurance company will look at me now!
