First Experience as a European HGV driver pt 1

Well where do i start. as many of you know of me being thrown in at the deep end just after passing my C+E here in Malta, I was given a Iveco stralis 500,
Having never driven a unit of this size let alone hooking up a trailer to it■■? Off i went for my 6 weeks away from home.

As i could write a novel with what i have seen and done in my first weeks as a HGV trucker i think i had better cut it as short as possible so im making it in to parts.

I arrived in Genova Italy, off the Grimaldi ferry very worried and with no idea where to go or what to do , i couldn’t understand why the whole port was at a stand still. After a bit of walking around i found there was a truckers strike(very help full on my first day ) finally i was allocated a trailer i managed to hook up no problems as no bugger had ever shown me ■■?

I was then texted a sms to go to load at VADO around a hours drive away very very worried, I did find the place after about a hour longer than normal. not speeking any Italian i some how managed to get loaded . i was told to wait in the yard for my CMR papers , hours passed i was still waiting, at 8pm i was called for my papers as the place was about to close and thay forgot about me 8 hours later? (before any smart arse askes why i dident question this delay i bloody did many times but english in [zb] dosent work)

So i had to take my load to rotterdam ,strange address strange postal code my GPS ■■■ pooed every time i typed it in■■? 2 days later in heavy snow and ice i made it no damage no big problems, I arived at my destination late in the evening so i thaught i will park up for the night in a snow covered layby across from where i was to be un loaded. pretty proud of my self i hit the hay , in the morning i cleaned the snow off my mirrows and windows an tried to be the first truck in the yard, Noooooop i was stuck the layby that was covered in snow to match the road was a BOG ,OMG,

After a lot of panic i managed to get a dutch driver to pull me out (nice guy ) i bet the thaught Stupid english ) in my case he was prob right.

so i was un loaded and set off for my next destination to be loaded, after about a hour or so on the dutch motorway a driver was trying to get my attention pointing at the rear of the trailer ■■? i pulled in to the hard sholder to find one of the wheels was 3 studs away from doing a trip of its own.

Again panic set in what the hell do i do i tryed to tighten the nuts best i could and called my boss as Maltese go i got (see how far you can get with it)
what the [zb] !! i managed to get to a truck services where thay changed everything rim studs nuts the lot and still with a constant flow of leaking air i was on my way again.

After my first week on the job i thaugh this couldent get any worse i had snow, ice
fog, hail, all the hevenly horrors and a lot of bad luck for a newby its only going to get better■■?/ so i thaught.

Hi there I wondered how you got on great diary you survived and the truck is in one piece I say well done and Im really pleased for ya one thing you didnt say is did you have a blast after all the probs or are you hanging up the keys , no sounds like you got it all sorted so where you off next ?
