First day tomorrow (containers)

Hey all, so finally got all my initial dcpc sorted and digicard, after a bit of canvassing found a container job acting as a subby(?) will be tramping 4 nights a week back home for the weekend. So far so good had a play with my lorry yesterday and learnt a bit about the skele trailer and learnt how to stretch it, but forgot to ask what twist locks to use for what container length so if anyone can clarify that for me that would be great. Aside from that anyone got any other advice? barely rode a bicycle in the last 6 years but did do a week out two manning to boost confidence. So if you got something to suggest fire away! I am quietly confident after a couple weeks I’ll be fine but my heart is going nuts just thinking about tomorrow, nerves huh?

Sorry if formatting is poor I’m on the phone. Cheers for reading!

You can have your skele in position 3 and get a 40ft container on using the front two twist locks and the rear two. No one really uses position 3 though because if you drop a 40 and pick up a 20 you have to change your skele position. So most use position 4 which means your 40 foot lines up with the second set of twist locks at the front (very close to the front set) and the rear. So if you drop a 40 and are picking up a 20 all you have to do is close the second set of twist locks and drop them, close and drop the rear ones and fold the arms away and then open up the middle two sets (central twist locks)

A few youtube videos should clarify it for you.

Best of luck pal, try to stay calm and relaxed. Probably easier said than done…

Have you got the modern skele with the button for extending/retracting or are you having to use the old change red airline method? I hate the latter especially when some dirty git has covered the red airline with grease from the fifth wheel.

Old type with the red airline that I must change.

Luxury when you get the button one

Good luck tomorrow mate you will be OK

Cheers for responses so far. Doubt I’ll get much sleep tonight, excited to get going and apprehensive but so glad to get off the dole.

As above, good luck tomorrow mate. Let us know how you get on. It’s always nice to hear or rather “read” about lol!

Well done Mate, good to get back to work.

You didn’t say where you’ll be working from.

As for positioning your skelly for whatever Container you are using, many skellies have a label on the side to give you a guide as to how that skelly is to be operated for any particular container to be used.

This is some useful advise,^^

but remember that most skellies require a loaded 20’ to be carried centrally on position 3, this is also for 45’ containers, using the rear spurs, and the front set of locks.

Will keep you informed. Even if I destroy the yard on the way out hehe. As for where I’m working around if my week out was anything to go by it seems to be all over but most of the work came out of London gateways and tilbury, still getting a grip on the terminology so if I missed the point let me know
