First day over with

First day driving solo class 1 under my belt. Brilliant and enjoyed every second of it. 567Kms in total, and still cant believe Ive done it   2 bays reversed onto with just a couple of shunts, jobs a good un

Only criticism of the day is the lack of parking places/toilets whilst you`re out and about, will have to learn to plan my routes via service stations, or not drink quite so much coffee

Well done, glad you’re enjoying it.

A refreshing change to read a good news post. Well done mate, glad you had a good day, despite all the crap you read, there’s generally more good than bad days

Well done on your first day solo,576km is a fair distance first day nice one,as for enjoying it you do have more good days than duff ones everyone does, just it suits some on here to moan everyday about it or they wouldn’t have anything to post on here lol :grimacing: .

Just a suggestion: If you are parked in a suitable place and have time to spare, practice blindside reversing. It’s not as hard as you might think, but you don’t want to be doing it for the first time ever in between two nice shiny trucks.

Thank you, we all have to have a good old whinge at some point I suppose, 576 clicks did seem a lot to me, especially with me being a newbie and all, but the gaffa said he had faith in me, so off I toddled lol.

As it stands I havent had the time or opportunity yet, but Im sure as soon as the chance arises I`ll give it a go, thanks

I’m sure someone will post something negative. Don’t take any notice, if your enjoying it then that’s all that matters.
Good on you and stay positive, it can be a great job.

good man…never mind your parking stops and coffee places…just take a pish bottle and voila, every stopping point has its own personal restroom for you.be self sufficient.mostly where you go will have no facilities for you and see you as something thats been stood on.(not so if your venturing across the water).but take your basic comforts with you,wet wipes and bog roll and woosh as and when it suits.that way,you wont need to sit through a 3 hour indiction wearing full ppe gear to know how to walk along a corridor and up 3 steps to use the bog(assuming they let you use it at al).

^^^^^^ she’s a girl.

i stand corrected…pish bucket then…

Cheers for that, pish bottle a bit harder to tiddle in with my anatomy, though I do carry my own wipes

If/When I get my own cab that`ll be a great idea, in the mean time cab hopping makes it a bit more difficult, I lug enough about with me as it is

It’s amazing how much stuff you’ll fill the unit with within a week including the builders bucket which is handy for carrying stuff…as well as other uses.

Sounds like you’re doing things well however especially if the gaffer gives you that kindof trip. Just be careful you don’t become the go-to person for maxing out your hours all week as no one else will do it, although you might find one of the decent company owners who knows how to treat their staff.

I know, bonkers isn`t it, this week I could have done with a crowbar, a hammer, a 14 mm spanner just for a start  , let along the important stuff like bog roll

Thanks for taking the time to give me advice, I do appreciate it and Im lucky to be working for a couple of pretty decent companies, 11 - 12 hr days, which are a bit longer that they normally would be as Im still learning the ropes. A more seasoned trucker would rattle them off in 10, no doubt
