First day driving an artic! (with pics)

Allo all.

Joined the forum last month after I passed my C E test in a wagon and drag. Currently work for Sunlight driving an 18 tonner rigid but already have a class 1 job to go to which im not starting until July for personal reasons.

However today my dads boss needed a trailer loading for start of next week so I jumped in my dads Scania with him as a passenger and did my first bit of driving in an artic. The company mainly hauls logs and steel so today was good to see the wagon being loaded in the woods and getting tips from dad about load restraints etc. Ive been away with dad in truck before but it was great to finally be behind the wheel

We collected the truck from Scania at Kingstown Carlisle and then drove round corner and I coupled up the the trailer. Then I drove it to the woods at Arresgill near Langholm in Scotland to get a load of logs. Experienced a few tight bends and bridges, got used to the single track dirt roads of the woods and reversed the artic for the first time by doing a three point turn in the woods. Once loaded drove it back to yard near Penrith.

Dad said he was impressed with my driving and couldnt really pick fault… He said I looked like Id done it for ages. Didnt mount any kurbs or cause any damage anywhere so thats all you can ask for really :stuck_out_tongue:

Really enjoyed it and im feeling a bit more at ease about moving from my class 2 to class 1 job soon. Today was defo useful as passing in a wagon and drag left me nervous about how different the artics would be! Was a positive day!

(until I got home to find a speeding ticket I got doing 35 in a 30 zone in the car on the door mat lol)

Heres a few pics I took…

Heres a stobart scania I saw at scania place before we picked up our motor… looks in a bad way!

Anyway just thought id share my first day driving an artic

cheers
