How dare you, the can’t use that title until you have passed pal, until that time, you’re “training”
You’ll get it no problem… Glad it’s going well pal!

It will just get better and better pal.
I suspect everyone struggles a bit the first time, that’s why the instructors come back to it later, once your head has cleared a bit…
Cheers mate I’ll update tomorrow
Day 2 Well everything went 100% Sept the reverse just can’t seem to do it right at all get round the cone fine then just can’t get it in the bay I did book wag and drag but the receptionist booked it wrong and couldn’t get me in on the wag n drag should of waited and then done the artic after the pass on wag n drag I’m over steering all the time so no what I’m doing wrong but just can’t get it right could pull my hair out lol

Hi pal, sounds to me like the moment you get past the cone, you’re too over eager to get in the box, so aim for it too early…
There is (in my opinion) plenty of time to straighten up to get in the box nice, and the box cone on the drivers side is NOT inline with the obstacle cone. So once you’re past the obstacle cone, you PROBABLY need to leave it heading across the course longer before aiming for the box.
But without seeing you do it, I’m guessing…
Plus I’m not a trainer, just a bellend!
It will come, and its only day 2.
If your trainer thinks you need it, I’m sure they will focus on it…
Who are you training with Sam?

Welwyn in hull nick
When I get past the cone I’m rather going to far back and can’t bring it back or when you come past the cone I’m 2 close to the right cone then why I try to sort it out it just goes to ■■■■ I no I could probably get it in with a shunt but I don’t try doing it with a shunt I just start it all over again and when I’m trying to correct it I’m putting half a turn on all the time really thought I’d of cracked it today

Hope you don’t mind me adding a bit of punctuation to try and check I’m reading you right…
For a start, it’s not easy to reverse dead straight, so don’t worry about lots of small corrections. And the operative word is small!!!
Are you using mirrors alone? As it might help if you stick your head out the window, as you can see a bit more…
My instructer is saying I’m using far to much lock on everything that’s why I’m having so much problems yes just using mirrors I stuck my head today and got told off lol just hope tomoz is a better day just doing my head in cause every thing else is 100% but was watching a lad in wag n drag today and it looks so much easier
samledger1212:

And how will that help you in the real world pal?
Smaller corrections, and I think you may be using bigger ones to help you get a good view of the target, hence why I said about putting your head out. To my knowledge this is perfectly acceptable. Pete■■?
Yes your right on that wouldn’t help at all mate on wag n drag just frustrating I no its only 2 days but just a bit worried with the test on Friday
This advice is general as I don’t know the detail of the vehicle you’re using - and it can make a difference. I understand you’re getting around B cone ok but then getting in a mess instead of into the box.
The secret is in the correction from the left steer you will have applied. Go back a stage: you start off steering left - that generates the bend. Then you steer left to get the unit back in front of the trailer. Depending on how quickly, or otherwise, you steer left will determine the line the trailer will take. It will rarely be the same twice. So it’s important to have a good look at where the trailer is heading and where the garage is. In a perfect world, the trailer will be pointing straight at the garage - but this world isn’t often perfect! All you need to do is to pause to look (yes, that means stop) weigh up where the trailer’s going. If its fine, leave it alone. If it needs adjusting, do it straight away but give it time to work. This is where the fault often arises. Because an artic wont immediately react to steering, folks tend to stuff a load more steering on and that’s the road to nowhere (or certainly not into the box!)
The emphasis, as you have heard, is on SMALL steering movements. But, as I said, give it time to react. Then, of course, keep up with it. From B cone to the box there are no huge steering movements.
Hopefully you’ve been taught to reverse in a straight line. This is the key to successful reversing IMO. But everyone’s got their own method.
Lastly, try not to get worked up about it. It wont help.
Deep breath and try again.
All the best with it. Pete

By all means stick your head out. But you must ensure you spend just as long in your left mirror. All round observation is essential - not just for passing a test but for the real world.
Personally, I don’t encourage folks to move the truck with head out of the window. But no problem pausing and having a look.
Pete
Cheers Pete don’t help that I keep turning it like a rigid still having issues turning it the opersit way and to much if I haven’t got it by Thurs I’ll just have to shunt it but don’t really want to do that

Getting over the turning in the opposite direction gets better every time mate…
Nothing wrong with a shunt, you’re going to be doing a lot in the real world!

Simple tip for test reversing with a CE. When you arrive at A cones (the ones furthest away) put it into reverse and say “RIGHT, I can do this”. That, hopefully, will remind you to steer RIGHT to start with. From there, steer the way the trailer is heading. Once it’s passed B cone, keep the steering movements small. Job done, sorted.
And, as for shunting, after 40+ years of practice I still shunt from time to time. So don’t worry about it. Each shunt on a test is recorded as a driving fault (minor mark) regardless of how far you shunt. So, if you shunt, make it count. You can have two shunts.
Hope this helps, Pete
Cheers evil and Pete let you how I get on today
