so did my first day we started at 3 but my driver was in for 2 the wagon is pre loaded when you go in but its all wrong you have to pull half the load apart to get to first drops so the shift lasted 12 hours that is over my driver hours this is 5 days then 6 days and so on. so one week will be 72 hours depending on how quick the shift is covered… the wage is £350 a week after tax if you work it out its not a lot of money per hour… what do you guys think? agency pays better tbh but it is full time thats prob its only advantage

Probably not over your driving hours - remember that driving hours is the time the wheels are turning. The money sounds pretty poor to me but as I don’t know your location I don’t know just how poor. On those hours it isn’t much over minimum wage. So many of these class 2 jobs are really for a labourer with a driving licence. Having to re-sort your load is just pure inefficiency on their part too.
I’m in Leeds Alan. The wage is shocking for the hours tbh I don’t mind a bit of graft but the load was a joke first 3 drops was farm foods they take the bulk of the milk all at the front of the wagon so remove all rear cages and had to do this at every drop till the last 3-4 where we could pull all full cages back and empty at front.
There is a paper place advertising jobs too at 8:50 a hour for first 8 then rest is over time paid at time and a half… Might apply there too
There you go then, you have answered your own question. Apply for better jobs but stick this out until you get one. It is always easier to get a job if you already have one. Make your mistakes in a job you are not worried about losing.
I guess they get through quite a few drivers if that is a typical day. On the other hand, perhaps today was just a bad one, see what tomorrow brings, eh?
And don’t forget how much it would cost you to go to a gym for a work-out like that.
Ha ha I went to the gym after work
The guy I was out with today said they have a high turnover of drivers some just do one day but I’m out with another guy tomorrow so see if he does the round any different
i’d be stripping the load out before leaving [zb] that for a game of Tetris. they would soon be having deliverys brought back loading it like the way you said…
Loaders need educating
Nick, please just type the word you wish to use… then leave the auto censor to do its work. dd.
Well day 2 so I’m with a new driver lets see how this goes
Sounds like a real pain these deliveries at Paynes.Load should not go out like that.
Lazy loaders syndrome.“Don’t give a fig attitude,i ain’t driving it.”

OUCH - just noticed the time of your post - didn’t know there were two of them in one day.
I am quite looking forward to hearing how today’s shift went - I suspect it won’t be a lot better. Wouldn’t you think that a business that was turning over a lot of drivers would realise the problem isn’t with the drivers? We all get crap jobs to do from time-to-time but at least should be paid in proportion to the amount of crap involved.
I was offered a job yesterday - days and nights at £8.50 an hour with no overtime rate, average of 49 hours a week, and that was class 1. The guy who offered me it was obviously embarrassed by the wages himself and wasn’t a bit surprised when I turned it down. He even went on to suggest somewhere else I might try where the money is better.
It’s not gone too bad Alan just heading to our last drop in Warrington then head back to York. Truck was still loaded like a ■■■■ but this guy drives quicker sorts trolleys out better but I still think the cash for the hours is still shocking
second day done took 11 hours in total but my driver went in a hour before me. must admit the guy made it a lot easier but still doing 12 hours a day 5 days then 6 days week after i’d be better off working in a factory.
Just being nosey big tank , are you running from Borough brdg or has Charlie got a depot in Leeds now ?

yeh from bourough mate. you worked there?
No bt I haven’t worked there but I’m in Harrogate not far away. We have a couple of Renaults so I’m often at Thompsons (dealer) at the back of Paynes yard.
I thought you said you were in Leeds , your travelling a long way for Stupid o’clock starts !
They often advertise for drivers and usually quote a salary, £23000 for shop multiple drop, £27000 (I think) for trunkers on artic tankers. Farm collections similar to multi I think.
Does that sound about right ?
Jim
Yeh it takes me 35 mins to get to work my salary was £23000 a year but broke down in to hours it’s less than min wage so I’m just going to look at agency I think. Artic is best job apparently tankers are meant to be worked none stop.
